I think Nolan’s Odyssey was very obviously using the framework of an ancient story to make a point about the modern western world and was never meant to be a straight text to screen adaptation and if you don’t understand that maybe film is just not the medium for you.

I think it’s pretty obvious that two things can be true: it’s highly desirable to see The Odyssey in the full aspect ratio given that it was shot to be experienced that way, and ALSO Chris Nolan is competent enough to compose his images so that they look good even when cropped
