A decade ago, I was reminded to call my mom after thinking about J.K. Simmons’ Oscars speech https://t.co/A7pNfQn4qT I was feeling particularly down that day, and she told me, as she always has, “I believe in you, John.” My Mom has never fully understood what I do, but her consistent belief in me has always made a weird and strange kind of difference. That kind of support has no particular logic or grounding and can make me roll my eyes 🙄 on some days.

Certainly an LLM can fake a supportive stance for me on any given day, but I don’t think it will ever be the same. This is important for me to remember as our world keeps ch-ch-changing in such interesting ways. Especially now, when a multimodal model can easily be trained to sound and express itself like my Mom. I won’t ever do that, though ... because I believe in my Mom.

Version 2 of the Amazon Titan Image Generator model is now available in Amazon Bedrock. It builds on v1 with image conditioning, image guidance using a color palette, background removal, and subject consistency across multiple images.

To test image conditioning, I used the photo below and described myself as old man in the mask prompt. Then I used the generator prompt "an old man in front of a futuristic city" and "an old man in a school bus" to generate the images.
