As part of its visit to Spain, the SIDM-led Indian Defence Industry Delegation had the privilege of interacting with H.E. Mr. Jayant N. Khobragade, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Spain and Andorra, and Shri YP Singh, Hon'ble Minister of Construction & Infrastructure, Government of Uttar Pradesh, during a Networking Dinner at the Indian Embassy Annexe.

The Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) is leading an Indian Defence Industry Delegation to Madrid, Spain, from 09–10 July 2026 to participate in the India–Spain Workshop on "Make in India in Defence", organised by the Embassy of India in Spain in collaboration with CEOE. The visit provides an important platform to engage with key Spanish stakeholders, strengthen industrial partnerships, and explore new avenues for India–Spain defence cooperation.

Addressing the distinguished gathering at the workshop, Dr. Shivaraman Ramaswamy, Chairman – SIDM Start-up Committee, highlighted five key areas for deepening bilateral defence industrial collaboration: co-development and co-production; innovation and start-up/MSME partnerships; supply chain integration; collaboration in emerging technologies; and joint development for global markets.

SIDM was also represented by Brig. Ashis Bhattacharyya (Retd), Principal Adviser, SIDM, who shared the Indian defence industry's perspective during the session titled "Defence Capabilities of India and Spain from an Industrial Perspective." He emphasised the importance of advancing India–Spain defence cooperation through a phased approach that addresses immediate, medium-, and long-term priorities, with a focus on co-development, co-innovation, technology collaboration, and industrial partnerships, while leveraging the advantages offered by the already well-established India–Spain Innovation Partnership (ISIP).

SIDM was privileged to participate in the 3rd IIC–Bruegel Annual Seminar held in Brussels on 23–24 June 2026.

Brig. Ashis Bhattacharyya (Retd.), Principal Advisor, SIDM, spoke during the session on “Opportunities in EU–India Defence Cooperation,” outlining a roadmap to transform political intent into tangible industrial collaboration.

Following the landmark EU–India Security and Defence Partnership (EI-SDP) signed in January 2026, the focus must now shift to building the legal and security frameworks needed to translate this partnership into action.

With India’s defence market projected to reach USD 38.7 billion by 2031, the opportunity is clear. It’s time to move from dialogue to delivery through stronger EU–India industrial collaboration.

15th meeting of Defence Information Technology Consultative Committee under the chairmanship of Sanjay Seth, Raksha Rajya Mantri and Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, CISC as Vice Chairman was held at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi today. Day 3 saw the SIDM delegation engage with leading French defence and aerospace companies, while also contributing to important discussions on the future of warfare and defence innovation.

The day's programme included interactions with Hexcel, Spherea, Fives AddUp, Thales, Roxel, Axon’ Cable and MBDA, where delegates explored advanced technologies, aerospace systems, defence manufacturing capabilities and opportunities for collaboration with Indian industry.

SIDM also participated in a panel discussion on autonomous warfare, where Brig Ashis Bhattacharyya, Principal Adviser (SIDM/CII), highlighted the importance of military doctrine in shaping the future of autonomous systems. He emphasized that while technology and manufacturing capabilities are critical, a clear doctrinal framework is essential to guide both military requirements and industrial development.

The delegation further participated in a dedicated B2B session with ASTech Paris Region, creating opportunities for Indian and French companies to connect, exchange ideas and explore future partnerships.

These engagements reinforced the strong and growing India–France defence partnership and highlighted the increasing opportunities for collaboration across technology, innovation and defence manufacturing.

SIDM looks towards the next two days to fruitfully connect member companies with defence companies of Netherlands, UK, Spain and Hungary to further strengthen bridges already across Europe for defence industry collaborations.

SIDM at Eurosatory 2026: Real Bottleneck in Autonomous Warfare Isn’t the Factory—It’s the Philosophy
At #Eurosatory2026, at a panel discussion organised by Col Rajiv Chib from Insighteon, SIDM shifted the global defense conversation. Panelists addressed the session "Autonomous systems in modern warfare: bridging the gap between battlefield evolution and industrial opportunity." Brig Ashis Bhattacharyya (Principal Adviser, SIDM/CII) highlighted that the true hurdles facing modern militaries are not supply chain chokepoints, but are fundamentally structural and intellectual.
Highlighting the SIDM's Framework on Why Military Doctrine Dictates Industrial Success, the organization emphasized need for a forward-looking doctrine that would act as a vital master blueprint would bridge the operational user with the industrial base. SIDM argued that an agile doctrinal framework must cater to both ends of the ecosystem simultaneously:
•For the Military: It establishes the new methods of engagement, dictating how forces organize, train, command, and integrate diverse autonomous swarms seamlessly into traditional combat formations.
•For the Industry: It provides a predictable operational roadmap. It determines how the state will procure these systems—shifting from expensive, exquisite platforms to "good enough," mass-produced, attritable systems. Crucially, it signals a clear demand path so the private sector can confidently invest in R&D to stay ahead of the innovation curve while sustaining lean peacetime demands.
The core takeaway – more than an arsenal of autonomous systems, nations need a unified doctrine that acts as a beacon not only for the military, but more importantly for the industry to deliver at scale and innovate.
Speaking on opportunities for FOEMs, SIDM opined that India is moving from buying closed "black boxes" to looking for international partners to co-develop critical "building blocks"—such as advanced propulsion, specialized sensor payloads, and EW-resilient data links in the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Brig Ashis Bhattacharyya also highlighted the "death of the safe rear area" and the shift toward massed attritable systems in furture.
The panel also featured valuable ecosystem insights from Mr. Praveen PA (Director, Aerospace & Defence, Government of Telangana), who highlighted TAatmanirbharobust aerospace hub infrastructure, and Raghavendra Adla (CEO, Panisian India), who shared the agility of deep-tech startups driving edge AI.
