Jimmy Lai “a Legendary & Heroic Prisoner” The Hong Kong entrepreneur has made enormous sacrifices for China’s pro-democracy movement |National Review @hk_watch @thecfhk @ipacglobal @SupportJimmyLai @caoilfhionnanna https://t.co/yayDzxHk7R
"In relation to Hong Kong, let's remember this is a regime that has completely broken and trashed an international treaty."
Our co-founder and CEO @benedictrogers
was on @GBNEWS last night discussing
@JamesCleverly 's visit to Beijing and the dismantling of #HongKong's freedoms.
Aug 31, 2019's remembered for the infamous police attacks on citizens in Prince Edward MTR. Huge protests occurred despite a Civil Human Rights Front march being banned. On July 21 in Yuen Long & Aug 31, #HongKongers lost all faith in police & came to see it as the #CCP's militia
Memories of 831!
These pictures are imprinted into my heart and soul.
Even today is 4 years ago,
The memories are fresh,
The pain remains real

This is typical of the intellectual vacuum at the heart of our foreign policy establishment. From @JamesCleverly Beijing forthcoming speech.
“No problem can be addressed without China”.
This is an empty truism masquerading as policy. Adds precisely nothing to the discussion.
Could just as easily say “no global problem is likely to be defeated *with* Xi Jinping in power”. Equally true. Equally vacuous.
It is deployed here to legitimise engagement. But nobody serious has a problem with engagement.
The issue is that what lurks underneath this apology for a policy is a desire to placate the ‘antis’ just enough to continue with the preferred diplomatic path - which is ‘stable relations’ (read: more business).
We must do better than this.
Online org Ultimate Yellow & Blue Map announced it removed both Yellow&Blue Map & Lemon Map from @googlemaps, saying "the social climate's changed & risks have increased." Since 2019, both were for locating pro-democracy & pro-CCP businesses in #HongKong.

The @thecfhk says the exodus from Hong Kong has accelerated: 291,000 residents leaving through mid-August,the highest level since record-keeping began in January 2020.500,000 have left since the beginning of 2021, killing the goose that laid the golden egg. Price of CCP tyranny.
#HongKong national security police have taken away Nathan Law’s sister-in-law for questioning.
She’s the 48th person affected by the crackdown related to the arrest warrants & bounties issued for 8 exiled HKers on July 3, 13 of them associated with Nathan. https://t.co/PToU0sjMqO
.@SamuelBickett on HK police detentions of relatives of exiled #HongKongers: “It’s essentially hostage-taking, sending a message to activists & potential activists abroad that if you stand up to the HK gov't they’ll go after your family..a gangster tactic"
https://t.co/IUC0zEe0hf
“Beijing’s top diplomats in Canada are tasking and likely funding Chinese student associations in aggressive intelligence operations that include “monitoring and coercing” other students and university officials, Canadian intelligence documents allege.” https://t.co/85GCgJQVXH
The 6 targeted overseas activists aren’t in hiding. The Hong Kong government can find out where they are and what they’re doing with a Google search. Holding and interrogating their family members serves no investigatory purpose—it’s hostage taking, pure and simple.
This should surprise no one. #China’s #CCP regime has torn up #HongKong’s freedoms and trampled on them. No wonder so many #HongKongers are leaving
Hong Kong has been on charm offensive for months but residents are still leaving at record rate https://t.co/YMDqdr768h @business
