The OED_OAS is pleased to announce the issuance of Executive Order No. 26-02, “Code of Ethics of the General Secretariat,” signed by the Secretary General on July 21, 2026.

Car-centric American suburbs have robbed us of vibrant community life and essential social spaces. You only truly understand what we've lost once you see a better alternative.
🎉🇪🇸 Today marks the 20th Anniversary of the signing of the agreement between the OAS and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain that created the Spanish Fund for the OAS (FEPO).
The @OED_OAS proudly joins this celebration of a partnership that, for two decades, has advanced democracy, human rights, peace, security, and institutional development throughout the Americas.
Since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on June 26, 2006, Spain has contributed more than US$77 million to the OAS, financing more than 200 projects and cooperation initiatives implemented by the General Secretariat in some of the Organization’s most strategic areas.
Over the last 20 years, FEPO has helped strengthen:
🕊️ Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding
⚖️ Human Rights
🏛️ Legal and Judicial Development
🗳️ Electoral Systems and Democratic Governance
🛡️ Multidimensional Security
📊 Institutional Strengthening, Oversight, Evaluation, and Results-Based Management
Beyond its financial contribution, FEPO has become a model of effective international cooperation, supporting innovation, transparency, accountability, and measurable results across the Hemisphere.
👏 Congratulations and sincere thanks to the Government of Spain, @AECID_es, the Permanent Observer Mission of Spain to the OAS, Member States, and the many OAS professionals who have contributed to the success of this remarkable partnership.
🌎 Together, Spain and the @OAS_official have demonstrated how strategic cooperation can create lasting impact, strengthen institutions, and improve the lives of people throughout the Americas.

🛡️📚 Strengthening institutional capacity begins with strengthening people.
The @OED_OAS recognizes the commitment of OAS personnel who continue to enhance their knowledge and skills in the management of grants and cooperative agreements, including best practices for identifying, preventing, and responding to fraud, waste, and abuse in grants, programs and projects.
🔍 Effective grant management requires constant vigilance, strong internal controls, sound oversight, and a culture of accountability. By strengthening their ability to detect risks and prevent the misuse of resources, OAS personnel help protect donor funds, ensure compliance with funding requirements, and safeguard the integrity of the Organization.
💡 Investing in professional development strengthens transparency, promotes responsible stewardship of resources, and contributes to better results for Member States, donors, and beneficiaries across the Hemisphere.
👏 Congratulations to all participants for their commitment to continuous learning and to building a more accountable, transparent, and results-oriented OAS.

Electric cars won’t save us:
“People who biked on a daily basis had 84% lower carbon emissions from all their daily travel than those who didn’t. […] emissions from biking can be more than 30 times lower than driving a gas car, and 10 times lower than driving an electric car.”
BREAKING: Removing bike -lanes from busy city streets will increase traffic congestion, according to a government document leaked amid a furious row over urban infrastructure.
The findings undercut claims the dedicated routes contribute to urban gridlock. https://t.co/ukriNqJrEX
Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.
ALL ROAD USERS.
And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them.

What does it take to move 1000 people? Better infrastructure supporting mobility choices that don’t take up so much space (or produce so much emissions/pollution, cost so much public money, etc).

@ecoengr@Boenau@wusa9 Exactly! How @wusa9 let the idea that an idled car in a city’s street is “more dangerous”air unchallenged? A car at 0 mph isn’t dangerous! Crossing a bike lane is WAY safer than a car lane. (Risk x Severity) Either focus on facts, or be clear about being perceptions.
