🎥 VIDYA (Variable Index Dynamic Average) in cTrader - how it works and how to use it

In this video, we explore VIDYA (Variable Index Dynamic Average) in cTrader - a dynamic moving average that adjusts its smoothing based on market volatility.

You’ll learn where to find VIDYA in cTrader and how to customise its settings. We walk through the default parameters shown in the platform (period 14, no shift, sigma 0.65, source: Close) and also show how to adjust the line style, thickness and visibility (including preferred timeframes and chart types). The video also shows that you can add levels in the indicator settings.

The walkthrough then demonstrates a common way traders read VIDYA on the chart:
• Bullish conditions: price is above VIDYA and the line slopes upward.
• Bearish conditions: price is below VIDYA and the line slopes downward.
• Low-momentum conditions: VIDYA stays relatively flat, helping reduce noise and avoid misleading signals.
We also compare VIDYA with a Simple Moving Average (SMA) using the same period to highlight how VIDYA can react differently as market volatility changes.
