Airlines facing financial difficulty: JetBlue, Frontier. JetBlue hasn’t turned a profit in 6 yrs. Both are facing issues besides jet fuel prices, which are hitting all airlines.

@Suzidawg3 @Reuters JAL and ANA are both publicly traded companies that have little to no shares owned by the government. Same for EVA, Starlux, and other carriers. You don’t have to be subsidized to be premium airline.
Yeah, the middle eastern carriers are subsidized.

@DjsAviation It’s very unlikely to happen. The transpacific/transatlantic joint ventures would have to go. You couldn’t have a merged airline that has JL, NH, BA, and LH as JV partners. Then there’s all the divesting of assets that would have to be done. It’s a cover for a B6 merger

The bigger question: Would the Japanese government make this new UA divest slots for HND? There’s precedent for this. The British gov made KE divest LHR-ICN slots when they merged with Asiana

@MCCCANM This has to be a ploy to make a United+JetBlue merger look better.
If a UA+AA merger happens, it would have a major impact on OneWorld, with Alaska being the only US partner. It would also effectively end the AA+BA joint venture and AA+JL joint venture.

@pika_nekopanda Japanese internment was covered in detail in my history & English classes. We did a combined assignment where we read a biography of a Japanese family that was sent to one of the camps. Later, we took a field trip to the Topaz internment camp in Utah. Quite an experience.
