What shall we do if the first query response from super intelligence is, “sorry dumb monkeys, I’m gonna take it from here.”

Shhh! Don't talk about this!

A motorist visiting a Southern California border area from Orange County was detained by Border Patrol agents who unlawfully demanded he stop recording, violating his First Amendment rights.

The agents threatened to search his vehicle without a warrant or articulable probable cause, leading the driver to explicitly invoke his Fourth Amendment protections against illegal search and seizure.

The video concludes with an agent appearing to physically signal a K9 unit to manufacture a false alert, which is an illegal law enforcement tactic used to bypass constitutional rights and justify an unlawful search.

The frontier can now single-agent-one shot previously unsolvable math problems.

And that model is now the dumbest model that will ever exist at the frontier…

Ok two more:

1. AI will enable the design of custom enzymes that can catalyze industrial processes and chemical manufacturing faster than existing methods. In some cases this will make existing chemicals cheap enough that it becomes possible to use them for totally new use cases. Also, custom chemicals may enable the design of more efficient molecules to do things like separate rare earths from other elements, currently a very nasty process.
2. Computers will have superhuman smell. Sensors will be able to smell disease on people and crops. It will be possible to monitor industrial processes more effectively as well. Many strange implications here, but potentially exciting for biosecurity.

This is WILD!

Sam Altman says in this Vanity Fair interview that GPT 6.1 Astra was scrapped because of an overly high risk of AI eventually going uncontrollably ROGUE.

"6.1 Astra, the current model we had ready to go, I think would have tipped too much towards the accident risk.”

"Accident risk" refers to a class of concerns Altman describes a minute earlier in the interview:
"There are kind of two major ways that this could go wrong ... you can have a big safety accident, eventually one that leads to like a real loss of control where AI, you know, escapes and it's out doing-- wreaking havoc on the internet and society can't really get control back."

The WSJ reported that OpenAI is continuing to develop a NEW and more powerful generation using the same base model as the scrapped GPT 6.1 Astra 😱

Axios is reporting that the top labs are wargaming scenarios for the aftermath of a catastrophic event in the next 6 - 12 months, that some executives now see as being inevitable.

[Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani @NYCMayor]

This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed.

This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.

Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.

Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children.

Abolish ICE.

[Acyn @Acyn]

Mamdani: There is no explanation for these tactics. There is no explanation for federal officers firing this many rounds into a car that has a five year old in the car. Look at how many people live right here. This is a residential neighborhood. We are right here by a subway.

And the pretext of ICE is, in their words, to keep this country safe. How is it keeping everyone safe to have, as you just heard from the police commissioner, individuals wearing construction vests in masks with long guns? Residents have no idea if these are law enforcement agents, or if they are simply attacking someone on the street. And when it comes to ICE, it begs the question, what's the difference? There is no explanation for this.

We are publishing an update to OpenAI problem #109 (integer multiplication) with further tightening.

κ = 2⁻³⁴ (tightened from κ = 2⁻¹⁸²)

The exact witness is 8.3 × 10⁻¹¹, a roughly 48 million fold improvement over the previous result and a 2¹⁴⁸ fold improvement over original OAI result.

The improvement came from removing the spacing penalty behind the quadratic bottleneck. This was done by moving compact control bits instead of entire windows.
