Gem1: 2009 batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer Varnali Deka then posted as Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar district in Assam lodged a Cyber Stalking case under IPC 354A and 354D against one Amit Chakraborty of Dhekiaji for posting a smiley emoji on a comment of another user under the facebook post of the Lady Officer.
Amit has to travel for 273 kms to just get a bail in the case. Facebook user Naresh Barua commented on a photograph of Varnali Deka in April 2023 writing, “No makeup today, ma’am?” Amit Chakraborty responded to this comment with a smiley emoji. Ms. Deka responded to Naresh Barua’s comment, saying, “Why is that your problem?” Later she filed a criminal case against three people including Amit and Naresh.
