I am so thrilled and proud to share our latest publication in @Brain1878 ! 🎉
Huge thanks to our amazing collaborators and everyone involved in this trial examining the impact of high phe on the brain of adults with #phenylketonuria@inselgruppe@unibern@official_espku@NSPKU
In a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled crossover trial, Muri et al. show that a 4-week high phenylalanine exposure in early-treated adults with phenylketonuria results in reversible structural brain changes. https://t.co/u5tSJ02Aow
Muri et al have previously demonstrated white matter changes in adults with early treated PKU. In new work they show that temporary exposure to high Phe levels leads to reversible white matter changes.

🧠Just published at @Brain1878 this awesome randomized trial from @raphaelamuri et al. showing that 4 weeks of high phenylalanine exposure in early-treated adults with phenylketonuria #PKU results in REVERSIBLE reductions of cortical grey matter!

So proud of our new PhD student Laura, who just started 5 weeks ago, for presenting our latest findings on brain aging in adults with #phenylketonuria at the @clin_neurobern annual meeting! Fantastic job 👏🏻🧠 @inselgruppe@unibern
🚨Check out the latest JIMD shortcast featuring my boss and Co-PI of the PICO-study, Dr. Roman Trepp, discussing our recent publication on whether adults with #phenylketonuria 🧬 can sense when their phenylalanine levels are high ⬇️ @inselgruppe@unibern
Can early treated adults with PKU sense high Phe levels?

It seems that adults with early-treated
#phenylketonuria#PKU cannot effectively identify high Phe levels but I agree with the authors that an increase from 300 to 1000 μmol/L could be perceived differently than from 700 to 1400 μmol/L
In this new Reports article drawn from PICO data, @raphaelamuri and colleagues pose an often asked question:
Do early-treated adults with phenylketonuria sense high phenylalanine levels?
Laura Hauri, et al

#PKU
📣 New evidences on neurological impact of high Phe-levels in #PKU adults.
A 4-week high phenylalanine exposure results in transient reductions of the cortical grey matter and worse cognitive performance.
👏👏Huge congrats to @simo_poli on successfully defending his PhD on multiparametric and multinuclear MR methods for studying human glucose metabolism 🎉 Fantastic work! So very well deserved! 🥳🎓!

💡👉Just published: our latest study on adults with #PKU suggests that a 4-week increase in high #Phe intake was noninferior to placebo for working memory accuracy, mood, and depression, though sustained attention showed differences @inselgruppe@unibern ➡️https://t.co/nCPmlqxvdi
Our publication was accompanied by a thought-provoking editorial by @RobinLachmann & Mirjam Langeveld, providing a different perspective on the effects of high Phe in adulthood. Dive into the conversation ➡️ https://t.co/A4yq0cKU6G
Very proud of our PhD student Anna Wyss for winning the ✨Best Poster Prize in the Category „Best Multidisciplinary Research“✨ at the Day of Clinical Research in Bern🥳!! Well done!!
