Welcome to the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada - St. John's Centre! We are the go-to source for astronomy in Newfoundland. Join us for some great times!
Totality in Codroy #Newfoundland was very dramatic. Thick mid-level clouds appeared at the start of the partial phase, completely hiding the sun. But 5 minutes before totality, the sky opened up. A magical experience on a gorgeous beach with great people! #nlwx#Eclipse2024
One year today, a Total Solar Eclipse will
be visible along a 160 KM wide path centered from SW (Codroy) to NE (Bonavista) on Newfoundland. All other parts of the Province will see a partial eclipse of varying amounts depending on closeness
to centre-line path. #nlwx#rascnl
Winter views over the island of Newfoundland Canada, including the easternmost point in North America and the @CityofStJohns. Captured live at 12:23pm EST today from the @Space_Station

If you have any information (visual report, camera image, etc.) about the bright meteor last night, we strongly encourage you to submit it to https://t.co/WGYcLNfopz It will help astronomers learn more about it and you'll contribute to science! #nlastro#nlwx
PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE tomorrow! #nlwx doesn't look great (snow?), but if you see it - do so safely using special filters! If you do, let us know! #stjohns timing:
605AM-810AM, maximum at 705AM. Obscuration is ~65% for St. John's, and nearly 85% further northwest in the province.
We’ll be celebrating #InternationalAstronomyDay today 1-4 PM at @NLGEOCENTRE. Depending on #nlwx we will be inside and/or outside and offering SAFE telescopic views of the moon and sun. See you there!
Another beauty shot of the comet, taken this morning by Brandon Robinson in Mount Pearl, NL! The comet is still a naked eye object but is fading. Finder chart: https://t.co/qVxvVPv2v3 #nlwx#nlastro#astronomy#comet#neowisec2020F3
#Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) is making a striking appearance now! Check it out tonight and over the next few nights; it's the brightest comet in our sky in a while! Look with binoculars NE just under Auriga after 3 AM. Photo: R. Dodge, last night in YYT! #nlwx#nlastro#astronomy
Due to #nlwx the public event is cancelled. We hope you were able to see it on your own earlier this morning while it was still clear! Good luck in 2032! ☀️
