🇩🇪 GERMANY → INDIA 🇮🇳 | A chapter I’ll never forget | 1/2

Germany was never just a place where I lived and worked. It became an experience, a challenge, a classroom, an adventure—and eventually, a second home. ❤️

When I first arrived, everything felt different: the language, culture, weather, food, people and routines. Slowly, the unfamiliar became familiar.

Germany taught me discipline, independence, structure and respect for time. I loved the infrastructure, work-life balance, clean surroundings, public transport, beautiful countryside and the exposure that came with living in the heart of Europe.

Of course, there was another side too. 😄

🚆 Deutsche Bahn taught me that “5 Minuten Verspätung” could occasionally turn into a much longer relationship with the railway platform.

🚗 The Autobahn was everything a driving enthusiast could appreciate—excellent roads, discipline and freedom, but also strict rules where every sign mattered.

🏙️ Köln became home.

The Kölner Dom, Rhine walks, Hohenzollern Bridge, Altstadt, Christmas markets and countless ordinary evenings became some of my favourite memories.

Then there were the seasons:

❄️ Snow-covered German winters
🌸 Spring bringing everything back to life
☀️ Long summer evenings and road trips
🍂 Beautiful autumn colours

Every season showed me a different Germany.

🎄 Christmas markets were another experience altogether—the lights, food stalls, festive atmosphere and those cold December evenings.

Germany also taught me one important survival rule:

Finish your grocery shopping before Sunday. 😄

🌍 Living there also opened Europe to me. A weekend could mean discovering another German city or experiencing an entirely different country, culture, language and cuisine.

🍦 And then there were the Eisdielen.

Some of the best ice cream I have ever tasted was in Germany. Summer walks somehow had a habit of ending with an ice cream in hand—and “one scoop” often became two or three. 😄

👨‍🍳 Cooking was another important part of my life there.

I already loved cooking before Germany, but living abroad gave me the opportunity to refine those skills even further.

From getting those chapatis perfectly round to paneer dishes, curries, rice preparations, snacks, Milk Cake, Rasmalai and plenty more—my kitchen became my comfort zone.

Cooking wasn’t simply about food. It was creativity, relaxation, hosting friends and keeping a connection with home alive thousands of kilometres away.

Professionally, Germany gave me invaluable international exposure. Working across cultures and with different clients and teams shaped the way I communicate, collaborate and approach problems.

But professional Germany also came with its famous companions:

Anmeldung. Ausländerbehörde. Forms. Letters. Termine. 😄

And yes—good salaries came with taxes, rent, insurance and a very real cost of living.

Germany taught me that you should never evaluate another country simply by salary.

Quality of life is a much bigger equation.
