@EdgelordJinx I have always suspected it was partially because the black hair and pale skin aesthetic sort of resembles the image people use to have of Asian women. For me personally, I just had a crush on a much older goth girl as a kid that I've probably never gotten over.

@garbageland69 @revenant_MMXX Underleveling has never been a problem in Pokemon if you played normally. That includes FireRed and leafgreen. Most maps, you should be fighting almost all of the trainers on the map anyway instead of trying to skip them. That's a major part of the gameplay you're skipping.

Consistent volume is really the only thing that's a universal part of a good mix and still someone out there has probably turned that into a creative choice too.
