Based on my bank account data and credit card usage, I am getting more than 100s of calls from HDFC executives regarding loan offers, jumbo loan offers.

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, made several decisions on Saturday to strengthen the indirect tax system and provide relief to the common man by lowering or exempting taxes on various products and services.

In a major relief to students, the Council decided to exempt GST on accommodation services provided to students outside educational institutions.

Students residing within the campus of an institution are already exempt from paying GST.

However, this exemption is conditional upon the accommodation rent being up to Rs 20,000 per person per month and the accommodation service being supplied for a minimum continuous period of 90 days, to avoid tax evasion by short-stay hotels classified as hostels.
