WHEN A JUDICIAL DECISION FALLS BELOW THE MINIMUM STANDARDS OF JUDICIAL DECISION MAKING, WHO HOLDS THE JUDGE ACCOUNTABLE?
Judicial independence should not be a reason for judicial decisions that are incoherent, inadequately reasoned or fall below minimum standards of judicial decision-making?
The Bangalore Principles of Judicial Conduct emphasise that public confidence in judicial integrity is of “utmost importance.” The Judiciary must be accountable for the decisions it makes!
Uganda needs a Judicial Decision Quality Review Framework to assess sampled judgments against objective standards of legal reasoning, evidential analysis and procedural fairness.
Judicial independence is a constitutional safeguard, not a licence for unaccountable decision-making.
The judgement in this particular election petition falls far below the acceptable minimum standards of Judicial decision making!
This morning at Namugongo Shrine ⛪️, Rev. Fr. Kiberu Charles Maria 👨celebrated the morning Mass with a powerful reflection on Matthew 22:21 & Mark 12:17:
"Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God."
Fr. Kiberu explained it simply:
To Caesar - Our Civic Duty
The coin bore Caesar's face, so it belonged to Caesar. That is taxes, laws and earthly responsibilities. We give it to the State.
To God - Our Ultimate Allegiance: We bear the IMAGE of God. We were created in His likeness. So our heart, our soul and our ultimate devotion belong not to any man, but to God alone.
He asked a hard question: We pay tax to Caesar, but does Caesar give us services?
He said when money starts to own us, when we worship wealth and power, then we no longer belong to God we belong to Caesar.
He reminded us of the former Speaker Anitah Among who once said Museveni is God the Father and Muhoozi is Jesus the Son. He asked: "Where is she now? She was used and dumped." A lesson that when you deify a man, man will eventually abandon you. Only God remains.
He also condemned the exploitation of God's people by some pastors who turn the altar into a market, demanding money from the poor in the name of God.
In a moment that left the shrine silent, he prayed for ALL prisoners including political prisoners. He condemned abductions, torture and the suffering of Ugandans. He prayed for a Uganda that is not a failed state, but a state that belongs to God.
And then he left us with a question that we must all take to our own churches:
Does your pastor talk about abductions? Does your pastor pray for the tortured and the imprisoned? Or does he only talk about money? 💵
We cannot belong to Caesar. We must belong to God.

NOT A GOOD EVENING!
The Sam Mugumya videos are very very disturbing and concerning especially for us Abanyarukungiri who are closely associated with him or his family.
Prayers for Sam and many other Ugandans facing similar challenges.
We pray for God's mercy and grace!
Today, 25th September, God has been merciful and blessed me with another year of life.
My mother told me that I was born on this day at "7 months" [Premature], at St. Kaloli Lwanga Hospital, Nyakibale, Rukungiri Municipality. Looking back, I can only say:- God’s mercy has carried me.
God has blessed me with wonderful family and friends across Uganda and more especially, with learned friends in the legal fraternity @ug_lawsociety@ealawsociety@JudiciaryUG, the State Advocates and the entire JLOS Sector.
God has also given me opportunities to serve his people:— as a Youth Council Member Kagunga SubCounty, Ass. Law Tutor at KIU, Honorary Secretary of the Uganda Law Society, member of several ULS and EALS committees, legal counsel to organisations, investment club leader and Deputy Chancellor of North Kigezi Diocese.
Through the Atukunda Education Trust Fund, I am now supporting over 30 children in Rukungiri District to access the Education opportunity God graciously gave me.
At my age of “omushaija yahamya,” as they say in Runyakitara, I remain grateful — and committed to serving humanity and adding my voice and effort towards building a Uganda [a Uganda that respects rule of law and Constitutionalism] our children and grandchildren will be proud to call home.
To everyone who has encouraged, supported, believed in or prayed for me, thank you. You make life worth living.
And to everyone who has sent a birthday shout-out: I truly appreciate you.
To God be the glory. 🙏🏾
MY DECISION TO FULLY RETURN TO PROFESSIONAL INDEPENDENCE SO THAT I CAN BE FREE TO QUESTION THE GOVERNMENT, OPPOSITION AND BE ABLE TO DEFEND THE LAW WITHOUT BEING ACCUSED OF DEFENDING A POLITICAL PARTY INTERESTS. HERE WE GO!
When the great tree falls, do not immediately watch the branches.
Watch the people who once sat beneath its shade.
Some will mourn the tree. Others will measure the timber.
The birds that built their nests there will suddenly find another tree. The hands that were fed by its fruit will forget who planted it. Old grudges will emerge from the forest, dressed as tradition, duty and concern.
And while everyone argues over what belonged to the tree, look for the woman sitting quietly beside its roots.
She remembers when it was only a seed.
She watered it before it gave shade. Protected it before it bore fruit. Stood beside it through every storm. She loved it when there was absolutely nothing to inherit.
Yet when the tree falls, even she may discover that those who once bowed before its branches have no difficulty stepping over its roots.
That is the cruel lesson of death:
Some people loved the tree.
Others only loved the shade.
Time eventually tells the difference.
Good morning Beloved 🤎

800 DAYS SOBER. 🚨 🚨 🚨
When I look at these numbers, I don’t just see days.
I see decisions.
I see battles nobody witnessed.
I see prayers.
I see discipline.
I see freedom.
And above everything, I see the grace of God.
Alcohol — over 2 years.
Vaping — over 1 year.
Marijuana — over 1 year.
Tobacco — over 3 years.
Celibacy — over 2 years.
This is what dying to the old life has looked like for me.
The question is no longer, “How much of my old life can I keep and still follow Christ?”
It is, “What must die in me today so that Christ can be glorified?”
I don’t want pieces of my old life back. I want JESUS.
The path to the glorious life: die to the old, rise into the new, and live for God—not for people.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
— Galatians 2:20
800 DAYS SOBER. And we keep going. 💃🏾😭🙌🏾
To anyone fighting addiction:
Day 1 matters. Keep going. Your story is not over. 📌
I have some exciting news to share.
Bamutakudde Village Health Camp was a SUCCESS!
Over 170 residents received free eye care, glasses, meds, HIV & diabetes screening.
I am happy to also share that over 15 cataract surgeries have been booked for next week.
Thank you @Herona14 Community Hospital, Dr. Henry Mukalazi, Dr. Susan Kikira & Charity Vision Int.
Healthcare is a priority! #Bamutakudde
He Googled instead of using Encyclopaedia Brittanica.
Ran a grammar, spellcheck and looked for synonyms on Word…
Instead of using Roget’s Thesaurus or Oxford English Dictionary.
He used a laptop instead of a typewriter..
TP instead of leaves.
The same reason you don’t drive manual cars anymore.
For someone who’s as tech savvy as you are, my beloved Andrew, I find your characterisation of this gentleman odd.
Especially because you are a lifelong advocate of efficiency.
