Good ideas here! Couldn't agree more. We live in interesting times, with two no-code solutions both emerging at the same time: Block Editor and AI. I believe there’s no going back to the old ways. WordPress is shifting
@riadbenguella Here. The labels are in Finnish, but I hope you get the idea. The DataViews component allows users to disable, enable, or detach occurrences of recurring event. The DataForm component is used to manage metadata. Both components are contained within their own <Modal> components.
Lots of changes in WordPress recently, but one thing has always stayed consistent: If you want to change the leadership and direction of WordPress, the only way is to fork the software and start building your thing.
@EarleDavies_@JimDabell And a8c's contribution wasn't just the Core, it was also documentation and education. With Developer Hours paused & Developer Blog likely quieter, we're losing key resources for learning. Not to mention how this will affect the development of WordPress Playground
What am I missing? Automattic is reducing its contribution to WordPress from 3,507 hours to 45 hours and people are like ”Cool, way to go”. Why is that?
@EarleDavies_@JimDabell For example, I initially scoffed at block-level design tools, thinking I'd rather write my own CSS. Now that they're in Core, I appreciate how they enable more reusable solutions than my custom solutions ever could
@JimDabell@EarleDavies_ Yeah, I get that the numbers are not 100% accurate. Companies always tend to paint the picture in their favor. But even if we assume that 50% of the contribution hours are made up, that's still like 1000+ hours missing per week! How is that anything but bad news for WordPress?
@EarleDavies_ How do you know it was a lie? Do you mean that the vision for Gutenberg and FSE was bad? Or what do you mean by net negative contribution?
It's clear the #WordPress world needs a change. So I wrote a post about exactly that:
Breaking the Status Quo: A vision for a new WordPress era

It's weird being WordPress developer in the Gutenberg and Block themes era: Block patterns, Core blocks and desing tools makes me code less. But at the same time, when I need to code, it can get really complex really fast. So I actually code more, than I did before
