One more sign of the hegemon's decline. When international organizations can not be instrumentalized in its favor. It is time to attack, discredit and overlook them
On July 21, Reps. Maxine Dexter (D-OR) and Mark Pocan (D-WI) took to the House floor to condemn the U.S. government’s “inhumane” policy toward Cuba a week after visiting the island — something Secretary of State Marco Rubio has never done.
Why does Saudi Arabia get to have a civilian nuclear program, but Iran does not?
- Because US companies get priority access in Saudi Arabia, and this puts "America first".
Last week, @repdeliaramirez, @RepDexterOR, @RepTeresaLF, and I got back from a fact-finding trip to Cuba. Cubans are suffering from a humanitarian crisis because of the decades-long American embargo and current fuel blockade.
Yet, the State Department just published a ridiculous report about the threat to America from Cuba. It may be the stupidest, most fantastical, most biased thing I’ve ever read from a governmental agency.
We will continue to do everything in our power to change American policy and end the blockade hurting the Cuban people.
BREAKING | The Republican-led House Ways and Means Committee has subpoenaed BreakThrough News for internal communications and financial records as part of an investigation the nonprofit outlet calls a politically motivated attack on independent journalism and the First Amendment.
BreakThrough News says it has not been accused of any crime, receives no funding from foreign governments or institutions, and already complies with nonprofit tax and reporting requirements. The outlet says lawmakers are targeting its coverage of Palestine solidarity, ICE, Cuba and other U.S. foreign policy issues, and has retained legal counsel to fight the subpoena while launching a petition and fundraising campaign.
It's worth remembering that under the Obama administration, the U.S. restored diplomatic relations with Cuba and nothing bad happened.
We should not impose a blockade that has fueled a humanitarian crisis for political reasons rather than genuine national security concerns.
This statement’s defense of Americans’ free speech rights to criticize US Cuba policy would be stronger if it also included a similar defense of, or even gesture toward, the free speech rights of the Cuban ppl to criticize their own govt.

Indeed too early. Mr Rubio, the paladin of western civilization offers a distopian miamesque vision of the World. It turn out now that Cuba is the aggressor. 100 pages ideologically slanted with no histórical coherenence, empirical verification or conceptual consintency.
Going to need more time to digest this doozy of a report.
But a skim already reveals highly questionable assertions that perversely replicate how Cuban govt portrays internal dissent as nothing but a foreign plot.
It's selective, infuriating history.
