I had taken a friend to Hampi. We had both flown from the US that week - he was in India on a work trip and had never visited the country before, while I was home to see family and friends.

At the Royal Enclosure in Hampi, a street-side vendor was selling Goli soda (pic) and sherbet. I bought a goli soda and was enjoying it when a bus, the one in the picture, pulled up. Two students from the bus walked over to us, curious about my friend, who is caucasian.

I offered them each a glass of sherbet.

Within moments, the rest of the students - about 20 at first - came over. I asked the vendor to serve every child a glass of sherbet. Then more students kept arriving.

Seeing the growing crowd and us waiting, the vendor smiled and said, "Just pay for 20. I'll take care of the rest."

I insisted on paying for 40, even though there were probably only around 30 students by then. He politely refused and repeated, "Just pay for 20."

On our way back, my friend turned to me and said, "The people here are genuinely kind."

My feeling is, Pakistan is really angry and desperate that the terrorist season is closing and it still doesn't have the water flow patterns to plan the attacks. Now with the time for summer melt picking up, it doesn't have any case basis over stopped water as water will anyways flow - and is trying all tricks to poke at India. Nuclear sabre rattling, fifth columns, cultural appropriation, everything. Interesting point from PV Narasimha Rao's Book Ayodhya : 6 December 1992 - quoting file notings - December 1949 - Ram Lala Idol was placed in Babri Masjid with support of then Divisional Commissioner KK Nair (written as Nayar- But a Keralite). Rao says - that time newspapers reported in divine manner about the incident. Nehru and Patel ordered to KK Nair to remove the idols. But Nair played game by writing on files for 2 years saying - No pujari ready to remove the idol as it is placed after Pujas and only certain pujaris can only take out the Idol by demystifying it. He wrote on file - i met this particular Pujari and that Pujari and none ready to remove it by delaying for 2 years ...

North Indians don't name.their kids Subramanian just as south Indians don't name their kids Kanhaiya or Kishan. A person is called Unnikrishnan in Kerala and someone is called Kanha in UP. But they are both named after Krishna. Shiva is called Bholenath in the north and Annamalaiyar in TN but they refer to the same force. Local culture and linguistic influences lend different names in different regions. Our civilization settled these ideas without internet or Twitter

Critics love to say, "Hindus destroyed all the Charvaka texts because they hated atheism." This is a massive historical half-truth.

It is true that independent, primary Charvaka sutras like the Barhaspatya Sutras did not survive the ravages of time, climate & foreign invasions, their entire philosophy survived precisely because Orthodox Hindu scholars meticulously preserved it.

In the unique tradition of Indian debate (Shastrartha), there is a foundational law called Purva Paksha (the opponent’s view). Before a Vedantin/a Nyaya scholar could present their own philosophy, they were strictly required by academic law to state their opponent’s view with absolute honesty, depth & perfection w/o twisting it.

The most common mistake critics make is assuming "Charvaka" was a singular, outcast rebel. The etymology tells a completely different story.

In Sanskrit, the name is derived from 2 roots:

- चारु (Cāru): Sweet/pleasant/elegant.
- वाक (Vāka): Speech/words.

In the Ramayana (Ayodhya Kanda), when Jabali uses materialist arguments to convince Rama to abandon his exile, he is speaking as a royal advisor using elite statecraft logic. The Charvakas were deeply embedded in the royal courts as ministers because their materialist, hyper-logical focus made them incredible economists & political strategists.

The most detailed, comprehensive layout of the Charvaka system exists in the Sarva-Darshana-Samgraha, written by Madhava Acharya, the 14th-century head of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham & orthodox champion of Vedic thought.

If Hinduism was a dogmatic, insecure faith, its highest religious leader would not have dedicated the opening chapter of his magnum opus to archiving the exact arguments against the soul, rituals & God. He preserved his enemy's armor so he could sharpen his own sword against it.

The biggest source of pleasure for those trying to target Sanatan Dharma is shouting, "See! Charvaka proves Hinduism contains its own contradiction!" This assumes Hinduism functions like Western, dogmatic religions.

In the Western framework, religion is a closed box of Belief vs. Heresy. If you do not believe the book, you are an infidel.

In the Indic framework, it is Darshana. The civilization categorizes systems based on Astika (accepting Vedic authority) & Nastika (rejecting Vedic authority).

Sanatan Dharma is the civilizational canopy that contains both the Astika & Nastika schools. Charvaka is an internal product of the Indian mind, utilizing Sanskrit, interacting within the same cultural context & participating in the same intellectual ecosystem.

Name 1 other ancient civilization on Earth that took its absolute materialist, anti-theist, anti-scriptural critics, cataloged their ideas with academic perfection, gave their founders the title of "Rishi" (Sage Brihaspati is traditionally credited with its origins) & preserved their arguments within its own sacred encyclopedias.

You will not find 1.

Charvaka does not expose a flaw in Sanatan Dharma; it exposes its ultimate, unparalleled intellectual freedom.

I always thought why the cultural right has historically lost ground despite having truth on its side. IMO, the Right & Center have suffered from a self-imposed handicap: let us call this "Yudhishthira Paradox"

They bring the rules of a Dharmayuddha (righteous war) to a street fight, while the Left plays by the rules of absolute, asymmetric annihilation. The Left does not want to win a debate; they want to destroy your livelihood, cancel your credentials, dox your family & completely wipe you out from public life.

In the Mahabharata, the Kauravas systematically broke every single rule of traditional Dharma. They tried to poison Bhima, burn the Pandavas alive in the house of lac, publicly disrobe a queen & trick them in a rigged game of dice.

When the war started, Yudhishthira initially wanted to stick to chivalrous, rule-bound warfare (Prakasha-Yuddha). But Bhagavan Shri Krishna explicitly rejected this naive approach. Krishna introduced Kuta-Yuddha: strategic, asymmetric warfare where the rules of the enemy are turned against them to ensure their absolute elimination.

When the enemy has already abandoned Dharma, sticking to abstract moral superiority is not virtue; it is suicide.

Acharya Chanakya, the master of statecraft in the Arthashastra, devoted entire chapters to Kantaka-Shodhana, which literally translates to the "clearing of thorns" from society.

The biggest mistake the modern Right makes is confusing Dharma with Western pacifism/weak sentimentalism. "If they abuse me, I will be polite, because my culture teaches tolerance."

Our culture teaches Kshatradharma. Dharma comes from the root word Dhri (to sustain). Anything that destroys the balance of truth & survival of society is Adharma. Allowing a toxic, malicious bully to destroy your life, family & heritage while you sit back & claim moral superiority is actually Adharma because you are enabling evil to win.

As Rishi Vishwamitra taught Sri Rama & as Samarth Ramdas taught Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj: Evil must be met with overwhelming, decisive force.

The Left operates on the rules of Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals: "Freeze the target, personalize it & polarize it." They attack the person, not the argument. When you are fighting for Dharma in the intellectual space, your goal should not be to get a "good job" certificate from the Leftist elites. Your goal must be the complete, data-driven & structural dismantling of their fraudulent narrative.

As the Rig Veda (10.84.2) says in the Manyu Suktam:

अग्निरिव मन्यो तविषितः सहस्व सेनानीर्नः सहुरे हूतेधि |
हत्वाय शत्रून वि भजस्व वेद ओजो मिमानो वि मर्धोनुदस्व ||

Flashing like fire, be thou, O conquering Manyu, invoked, O Victor, as our army's leader. Slay thou our foes, distribute their possessions: show forth thy vigour, scatter those who hate us.

Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan & B.R. Chopra’s Mahabharat were cultural phenomena that brought families together, but IMO they had to compromise deep, complex historical texts for the sake of 1980s television runtimes & emotional melodrama.

The unfortunate side effect? An entire generation grew up practicing "TV-serial Hinduism" rather than reading the original text (Mool Grantha). Complex historical figures were flattened into binary "heroes" & "villains," & in fact, fascinating, crucial characters were completely erased from public memory.

A classic example is, people loving to debate whether Vibhishana switching sides in the Ramayana was justified, yet they completely ignore Yuyutsu in the Mahabharata.

Yuyutsu was a son of Dhritarashtra (born to Sugadha), making him a half-brother to the Kauravas.

On Day 1 of the Kurukshetra war, Yudhisthira walked out into the middle of the battlefield and made an open declaration: Whoever believes Dharma is on our side, come join us now before the war begins. Out of the entire Kaurava army, only 1 man had the immense moral courage to step forward, walk away from his 100 brothers & join the Pandavas. That was Yuyutsu.

In fact, after the war, when the Pandavas retired to the Himalayas, Yuyutsu was appointed as the caretaker of the entire kingdom of Hastinapur while Parikshit was a minor.
