Every #COVID infection is a risk for the brain because:
1- Ace2 receptor (entry receptor for SARS-Cov-2 in cells) is highly expressed in all blood vessels, including cerebral ones.
2- The virus arriving in the brain will cause a mess. Even if you don't look at infected cells, check the outcome of a viral infection. It is always neuroinflammation.
The images below show the hippocampal region (memory and cognition) with and without SARS-Cov-2. The staining is for glia cells (🟢microglia🟣astrocytes) and neurons (🔵). There is no staining for the virus in the image, but you can see where a large blood vessel arrived and the damage it caused to surrounding neurons.
