@thekrisofficiel@NiyiNeyo0@perniciouspatho@Issybeatz_ My point wasnt specifically about the internet it is about survivorship bias and revising the past, the law is a controversial topic but the idea of removing all laws is a ridiculous take to have. I don’t think it’s rational to generalise something in that way
@thekrisofficiel@NiyiNeyo0@perniciouspatho@Issybeatz_ And the internet wouldn’t exist for you to say this without those repercussions to behaviour that threatens advancement, the law and the concept of morality is misused 100% but the answer is not to remove the whole structure unless the goal is a post apocalyptic world
@NiyiNeyo0@perniciouspatho@Issybeatz_ There is a level of survivorship bias in asking why laws exist to curb “evil” when if those laws or punishments didnt exist the cooperation needed to get to the point where you can ask this question doesnt either. There is so many social factors that result in what we label evil
@OtmoorMr@allthecitizens@neighbour_kx And going back to the anthropic thing, this is exactly the sorta intelligence that lets the US walk all over us if it is misused or we give too much control of a critical database to them
@OtmoorMr@allthecitizens@neighbour_kx I think that’s a reasonable stance, and maybe the difference in what we think is more about how far we think the US and companies like Palantir are willing to go, and I think regardless of where you stand on that it is bad for a staple of our society to risk that
@OtmoorMr@allthecitizens@neighbour_kx end of the world that palantir are involved with the NHS i just think it is an unnecesary risk to take and that if the negative or malicious things happen, we might not even see it or at least be able to prove it objectively
@OtmoorMr@allthecitizens@neighbour_kx trump has done with anthropic and the precedent that sets, and where that road will go, being reliant on US technology, systems and companies is something we have accepted but after that we should maybe not take that risk going further in any area we can, i dont think it is the
@OtmoorMr@allthecitizens@neighbour_kx and i wouldnt claim to know the intentions of palantir itself, but there is enough red flags, and showing that they are okay with living in the grey areas where to me it would be an insane position to give them the benefit of the doubt at this point
@OtmoorMr@allthecitizens@neighbour_kx there 100% would be, i do not see a company like palantir having access to this information or any foothold in our public services in ending well in general, a lot of concern comes from things like the the cambridge analytica situation (1/2)
@OtmoorMr@allthecitizens@neighbour_kx Giving a company that has worked with both the IDF and CIA this kind of power is a crazy thing to do, no matter what assurances are made about how the data will be protected, especially when there is controversy around them being shady with data in the past
@Techie_2021@dannywilliamsny@ZachWKelly I don’t think it’s that black and white, and they conform to a different hive mind which is why a lot of abuse goes under the table, I don’t think someone pointing that out is irrational

@AlexFinn At every step of concern with AI people completely ignore what is happening and make an autonomy argument, I don’t trust any government to oversee this so I get the sentiment but the wake up call should be about alignment concerns not talking about how to blindly use models
@jklyt95@Judeemma@CallumSavage_24 The hatred also generally comes from major power imbalances in the past, you can see how the UK is seen in most cultures by countries we don’t have any feeling towards or bad feeling toward, theres definitely a few good reasons why it’s hard to compare state culture and countries
@jklyt95@Judeemma@CallumSavage_24 I think it is different but for reasons people dont talk about, hatred is weirdly one of the most relevant reasons, most major divides come from centuries of war and tyranny, I have no doubt culture changes state to state but those kind of changes arent as drastic
