“This is a time to look inwards, to examine ourselves. This also a time to dream […] we must marshal together our moral courage and actively imagine the world we want to live in” https://t.co/jlsJHuB9Rf
You know who didn’t get amnesty?
All the civilians who were detained, imprisoned & tortured for “conspiring against the state” w/ no proof.
Displaced mothers who were accused of being RSF sympathizers, separated from their kids & given prison sentences simply for being Darfuri.
May you never know the terror of having to flee your home at a moment's notice only to be displaced into the streets and left unsure from where the next strikes will rain.
My heart shatters for Lebanon.
Call for applications for a research grant from CEDEJ in Cairo for displaced Sudanese cholars and researchers. Kindly retweet widely for those interested.
Do u know why Sudanese refugees in northern Ethiopia are on hunger strike for the past 4 days??
They were running out of food, & chose for some to stop eating to leave what little food is left for the 2,000 children, pregnant mothers, the elderly & disabled.

I just saw that video of the Sudanese woman saying:
ليه بس نحن نموت. يقتلونا ويشردونا من مكانتنا ومن مناطقنا مافي زوول يتكلم لينا ومافي احد بيجينا لي؟
Everything she said and how she said it broke my heart.
This is a reminder to never stop talking about Sudan.

"This is the worst news ever. My family and friends are in #Sudan & there is a total communication blackout. [The] only source of internet is Starlink and now they do this."

Even in the darkest moments, #Sudanese resilience is remarkable.
Despite the challenges, the people of #Sudan show unwavering commitment to spport one another.
The Volunteer Communal kitchens are not only a source of food, they offer a sense of hope, solidarity § support 🇸🇩
The current aid system isn’t great at responding to internal #displacement crises—too slow, piecemeal, & tone-deaf.
#Sudan has the world’s largest displacement crisis, and all the trappings above, plus funding is abysmal.
Aid orgs and donors must commit to improving this.
Millions are suffering, and hosting capacities by local communities will bankrupt the little resilience they had.
The internal displacement crisis here will soon turn into a much greater refugee crisis if the response doesn’t improve.

A family impacted by the war are at risk of eviction from their home, they urgently need $3200 to settle the backpay on rent and keep their apartment.
If you can help, I would be forever grateful. ❤️

My father sent these incredible photos from Kassala earlier today. Not an easy task at times of internet blackouts, or intermittent connectivity.
I see these photos as a reminder that our country is beautiful and worth saving.

I write poetry in Arabic and never wrote in English before, but I wanted my brothers story to reach the world, so I wrote an English piece in his memory.
Preface
On December 22nd, 2023, I lost my dear brother and childhood friend Abdelaal, a brilliant biostatistician who was the Director of the National Institute of Statistics and Population Studies in #Sudan. He was shot and killed at our family home in Wad Medani during the #SudanWar
The Breeze
(In memory of my brother Abdelaal Abdellatif Fadul)
I held you close and tight
But you kept on slipping away
Merging into the sunlight
A soft breeze in a tropical night
That's how you lived
That's how you left
That’s what you left
Yet, you stayed close
To shower us with your kindness
In a world that turned into an empathy desert
I feel your breeze
Shielding us from the haboob
That sandstorm you loved
For it turned your hair brown
But it turned me blind
To that heavy weight you lifted
So you can keep our hearts light
You smiled and made it look perfect
In a world that was anything but right
Believe it or not
I still see those memories
Of us digging a hole in the wall
Looking for our invisible friends
The one that came on Wednesdays
And the other that left on Fridays
A tape of memories keeps running
In front of my eyes
Yet I could not keep you from rising into the skies
And back down into my deep heart
Like someone who is gone
But never really left
I once read “grief is my only way of keeping you close”
I could not keep you here but,
My heart will always sing your favorite songs
My eyes will always see your favorite colors
My hand will always give your favorite gifts
My days will always begin with a vision of your smile
And my seasons will always end with your breeze on my face…

“The only thing stopping us from scaling up & providing relief is funding.
And the only thing stopping an end to the war is political cowardice.”
Thank you, @WillCarter_NRC.

Important reporting from the brave and indefatigable @hiba_morgan in Khartoum on the RSF’s kidnapping of children for their war effort.
With non-Arabic language media houses unable to access #Sudan reports like Hiba’s require much more attention. Follow her and watch her reports
We are literally watching people ask for help on the TL because they are running out of food. Please. This isn't the time for your political think pieces. I beg. Let's push for humanitarian corridors before our people starve to death.

People keep asking how they can help Sudan. Here's the report from the Sudan humanitarian crisis conference, organised by Sudanese people and their partners, containing many recommendations. Please read, disseminate and *use* it.
Wad Medani - a place of refuge for thousands displaced from Khartoum and a medical care hub - is on fire as reports emerge that the RSF have infiltrated Al-Jazeera state and launched an attack on the state capital.
This is a serious turn for the worse. الله أستر
We asked our podcast guests Aida Abbashar & @KholoodKhair what we should be reading to learn about Sudan. These are their recommendations ⤵️🧵
