Joumana Azar is a very dear friend.
In 1989, during the war, she lost her two little girls Ruba and Maya. In the chaos of Syrian bombardments at the port of Jounieh, as families tried to escape Lebanon on small boats heading toward a larger vessel offshore, her daughters slipped from her arms into the sea. They never came back
Since then, nothing has ever been the same.
I return to her today, not to listen to a story of grief. Joumana is here to tell us something far more difficult: That we have all lost in this country. More than we admit. More than we remember. And yet, we cannot afford to lose this land too. To leave it behind as if it meant nothing. Because for those who have lost everything, this place is not just a country. It is what remains.
And sometimes, holding on … is the bravest thing we have left 🇱🇧❤️

"We're waiting to find the deceased's foot so his family can put it with the rest of his body and bury him."
Cannot get these words from a civil defense worker yesterday out of my head
The Lebanese armed forces have come under much criticism lately, often because its critics fail to understand the institution's real limitations. Here, I offer an alternative proposal that addresses its fears, but also shows that it can act, at Diwan: https://t.co/bomoIHkY8M

Unlike the sources cited by Ms. @farnazfassihi in today's @nytimes, I view Dr. @alilarijani_ir less as a decision-maker and more as a highly capable coordinator. And on that note, here is a good excuse to plug my biography of him! https://t.co/ObU7ulQPPV
Oman is positioning itself as a future regional hub for space applications and innovation and a host, regulator, and service provider embedded within the global space economy. @RayKaram https://t.co/OC1L1hfiF5
Lot of this is about faith and Christianity in Lebanon but a lot of it as well is about Lebanese sheer joy to be recognized, seen and picked by such an emissary for his first trip abroad. It brings hope that Beirut is not doomed in eternal cycles of war, can see its way out.
Undersea cables are necessary for the rapid movement of information that the Gulf’s AI ambitions require, but they are uniquely vulnerable to disruption and sabotage. @RayKaram https://t.co/jDB7107A43
“The Saudis have, perhaps painfully, learned that being drawn into U.S. internal politics is not only unwelcome but profoundly damaging to the #Kingdom's interests.” I was pleased to participate in—and help advance—this exceptionally timely and important discussion with leading voices on the U.S.–#Saudi partnership ahead of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to #Washington. We examine the pivotal questions shaping defense cooperation, advanced technology, regional #security dynamics, and the future direction of this strategic relationship. A critical dialogue at a pivotal moment.
