🇵🇸 New: More than a third of essential medicines stocked by the Palestinian Health Ministry in the occupied West Bank have completely run out, pushing the healthcare system toward collapse, according to a report by Ultra Palestine.
The outlet reports that:
▪️35.5% of the ministry’s medicines are now at zero stock, including 50 of the 97 drug types used to treat cancer patients.
▪️Officials warned that the lives of more than 4,000 cancer patients and thousands of kidney dialysis patients are at risk
▪️Around 11,000 surgeries could be delayed because of shortages.
The crisis has been fueled by Israel’s withholding of Palestinian tax revenues, while health officials and budget analysts told Ultra Palestine that years of underinvestment and mounting debt have also hollowed out the system.
Drug suppliers say the government owes them roughly 1.35 billion shekels (about $385 million), leaving some companies at risk of bankruptcy and losing their international distribution rights (to Israel).
@inarchus@nielsbrinch@IsraelMFA@grok Yeah it was a higher priority then the Sinai because they stole the land and a war would've been inevitable. Egypt at the time was the most influential Arab country and the US also wanted relations with Egypt. Peace is the last order for Israel.
@inarchus@nielsbrinch@IsraelMFA@grok They gave it up to make peace with Egypt. Even though the prime minister the time REALLY did not want to give it up
@inarchus@nielsbrinch@IsraelMFA@grok US and Israeli intelligence at the time didn't even think that Egypt would the troops. They just used the opportunity to expand to the Sinai.
