@ThrillaRilla369@rascal113646@joewallin It’s a very popular opinion. Just not with all the people who think they have a “right” to take money from other people to use for their own purposes.
@brian_mac8419@JoeKennewick *All* of the gas stations, chains, supermarkets would have to collude to fix prices. It would only take one store or chain in a market having significantly lower prices to get everyone else to drop overnight. Costco alone would take care of that, IMO.
@CoachBuiltLeadR Depends on the equity, interest rate, the rest of the debt load, and the location/market. Using other peoples’ money effectively is what wealthy (or soon to be wealthy) people do.
@HollyCabot “Rub some dirt on it.”
“Well, did you hit him back?”
“Run down to the store and get me a carton of Benson & Hedges.”
Ok, that last one was my grandmother, but still… 😉
@mrmikeMTL I have relapsed into my Factorio addiction, routinely replay through Bethesda, Borderlands, and GTA games, and occasionally get sucked back into Elite:Dangerous for a month or five.
@HollyCabot TL;DR, I now have the freedom to pass on things where I don’t think I can bring value or be valued. I wish that for everyone! I’d still do what I’d been doing if the right thing came along, but I’m really engaged learning all these new things.

@HollyCabot Most importantly, though, I had become fundamentally unhappy and even ragey. It took my wife three years to convince me to quit. I’m glad she won, though. 🙂

@HollyCabot skills sharp. WRT your question, I left my job due to a combination of burnout, an increasingly bureaucratic, HR-driven corporate world, and reaching a point where I’d stopped being able to effect positive change in the org.

@HollyCabot Like some of your other responders, I’ve worked a lot on things I *want* to work on. I’ve easily given away six figures of my time (at my old rates) to independent software devs and individuals who need management consulting or life coaching. I keep my knowledge and

@HollyCabot I’d actually love to go back into biz/corporate. I was a “big fish in a tiny pond” executive and loved it, and think I’d still be able to bring a lot of value to the right organization, but for a variety of reasons, I’m not often an attractive candidate.

@HollyCabot I “retired” 10 years ago by failing a sabbatical and learning that I’d saved enough to not need to go back. Since then, I’ve released two albums, scored two films, am scoring a videogame, and have three albums in the pipeline for later this year.

In this small thread, I'll break down how you can create full-length movies or anime with Grok 4 Imagine.
This entire video was created with Grok4 Imagine and a video editor.
Got an email from @Spotify announcing that they were expanding the Song Credits and information available for music.
Great, now you can read a complete list of everyone who's not getting paid by @Spotify's artist-hostile model and practices.

I spent ~4 hours getting Grok to write me a conversation export extension for Safari. It was a hit/miss experience, but I ended up with something that, while not elegant, is basically functional. It's certainly better than I could have done and a starting point for more.
