Everyone’s on Japan appreciation 🇯🇵
This Lost Decades doc makes that 80s nostalgia hit different and explains how deeply Japan is tied into the US economy https://t.co/fhoH71ylIy
Venezuela isn’t about oil. It’s about critical minerals and territory where China, Iran and Russia operate simultaneously.
Another sign the post-1971 fiat system is dead.
The world is moving back to real things with real constraints. We'll all need real money. Buy bitcoin.
@stachrom Beyond just losing the silicon lottery, I can imagine there could be a few factors at play. Who built it? How long did it last? And did you change the default settings?
Got the Bitaxe Gamma 601 which is a mini (1.2 TH/s) Bitcoin miner to solo-mine in hopes of winning the lottery and doing my small part to decentralize the network. Uses very little power (15W) and runs silent if you upgrade the stock fan like I did 💨
@StackerSatoshi@Ledger Recently switched from Ledger to @BlockstreamJade. I was considering a Coldcard but this is fully open-source, cheaper and simpler.
I think most people don’t realize the level of disruption that could come to the rest of crypto following the news of Bitcoin Lightning Taproot assets and Tether USDT support. It could very well play out like this.
Picture this: the altcoin crowd—devs, investors, hardcore shillers—starts noticing a slow bleed. It’s 2025, maybe 2026, and Bitcoin’s Lightning Network is humming along, processing millions of transactions daily, fees still near-zero. Taproot’s kicking in too—developers are churning out slick tools like Taro, building stablecoins, tokenized assets, even rudimentary DeFi experiments, all on Bitcoin. The chatter on X and dev forums shifts: “Why build on Ethereum with its gas fees when Bitcoin’s got security and scale?” The realization hits like a gut punch—Bitcoin’s not just digital gold anymore; it’s eating altcoins’ lunch.
First, you’d see panic in altcoin land. Devs who banked on “Bitcoin can’t do X” scramble to pivot. Ethereum coders might double down on layer-2s like Arbitrum, but the writing’s on the wall—Bitcoin’s network effect is a beast, and its $1.5 trillion market cap (let’s say) dwarfs the rest. Smaller altcoins—your Dogecoins, your Cardanos—start bleeding talent. Why pour effort into a chain with 5% of Bitcoin’s hash power when Lightning hubs are offering grants and Taproot’s opening new playgrounds? GitHub repos for altcoin projects stagnate; Bitcoin’s light up with commits.
The market reacts fast. Altcoin prices tank as speculators smell the shift—why hold a “faster Bitcoin” knockoff when the real deal’s caught up? X lights up with “I told you so” posts from Bitcoin maxis, while altcoin diehards cope, tweeting “But muh ecosystem!” Exchanges feel it too—trading volume tilts harder toward BTC pairs. Some altcoins pivot to interoperability, begging to plug into Bitcoin’s orbit, but the weaker ones just fade—ghost chains with no devs, no users.
Communities fracture. The “blockchain not Bitcoin” folks either jump ship or dig in, preaching niche utility—privacy coins like Monero might survive, or Solana if it keeps speed freaks hooked. But the average dev? They follow the money and momentum. Bitcoin conferences swell—Lightning Hackathons, Taproot workshops—while altcoin meetups thin out. A few big names, maybe Vitalik or Hoskinson, try to rally their troops, but the vibe’s off. “Bitcoin’s boring” doesn’t sell when it’s quietly stealing the show.
It’s not instant death—altcoins have loyalists and inertia. But the slow grind of Bitcoin absorbing dev mindshare could turn their “killer app” edge into a relic. Imagine Ethereum as AOL—still around, but the internet (Bitcoin) won. Wild to think about—what do you reckon the holdouts would cling to?
@wclemente@BitcoinPierre How can we be entering early majority when the vast majority of people, businesses & nations still don’t have any Bitcoin exposure?
In terms of decentralization, a single one of these is only be a drop in the bucket. But if we had a million of these running in the wild, it would amount to 1 EH/s which would hit a block on average every few days.
This one was built by @PlebSource but anybody could have built one as they are fully open-source (hardware, firmware and software). The only thing that isn’t yet is the ASIC chip which was taken from a Bitmain Antminer S21.
Glad Elon is bringing light to this. There’s been so many excuses thrown around for the recent spike in inflation last few years but ultimately it’s money printing 🖨️
This is HUGE for Bitcoin. The Taproot Assets protocol developed by @lightning enables near-instant and low-cost transfers of not only stablecoins but other assets. 🤯
