Prime Minister @andyburnham and Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband : how much longer will Britain remain silent?

For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir,  which according to the UN,  amounts to torture and which  is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health. 

He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors.

The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture.

He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years.

Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive  medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons.

Yet those orders are being defied.

This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency.

He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and  include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university.

His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls. 

I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not  intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father. 

@FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court;  restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights.

Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient.
This an appeal to the new Burnham government  to please now do the right thing.

It is extremely shameful that India abstained from voting on the Gaza ceasefire at the UN General Assembly on June 12, 2025. India has always stood for peace, justice and human dignity.

• More than 60,000 lives have been lost in Palestine—most of them women and children. Thousands are starving and dying, and the international aid has stopped. This is a humanitarian tragedy.

• At such a time, India should have stood firmly in support of a ceasefire in Gaza, but India abandoned its principled stand against war, genocide and justice.

• India has always chosen to stand with Palestine as a matter of principle and not as a strategy, but today that glorious legacy lies reduced to rubble.

• Today, India has abandoned its principles and has bowed down to Tel Aviv. These were the same principles that once made us the guiding light for leadership values ​​to the world.

🔹 It is essential to remember that global leadership is not built on silence. If we want India's voice to matter on the global stage, the most crucial thing is that we stand up against injustice with courage.

🔹 Today, when Palestine is reeling under violence, humanitarian degradation and growing instability, it is not right for India to remain silent.

▪️ Looking at India's history, the Modi government will have to understand that the world does not listen to the country that speaks the loudest. The world listens to those who speak with full courage and conscience.

مولانا فضل لرحمان کے جنرل باجوہ اور جنرل فیض پر لگائے الزامات کے بعد ہمارے تحقیقاتی صحافیوں کی جگاڑ کا عالم یہ ہے کہ اِن الزامات کی تردید کے لئیے جنرل فیض کا آن دا ریکارڈ موقف لینے کی بجائے اُنکے نام نہاد "قریبی ذرائع" کا سہارا لیا جا رہا ہے۔ حالت یہ ہو گئی ہے کہ کچھ صحافی ایسی شوربے کے شوربے کی تردیدیں چلانا اپنا مذہبی فریضہ سمجھتے ہیں-

یہ محکومانہ صحافت نوجوان صحافیوں کے لئیے گمراہ کن اور صحافت کے لئیے باعثِ ننگ ہے۔ صحافت میں سورس یا ذرائع کا پہلا اصول یہ ہے کہ اسکو تردیدوں کے لئیے استعمال نہیں کیا جاتا۔ تردید صرف مبینہ ملزم خود ہی کر سکتا ہے نہ کہ اُس کے نام نہاد قریبی ذرائع جنکے کی نام پر کی گئی تردیدوں کا واحد مقصد بعد میں مکر جانے کی آپشن برقرار رکھنا ہوتا ہے۔ یہ وہ صحافی ہوتے ہیں جو خبروں کی لالچ میں اپنی سورس کے ہاتھوں یرغمال بن جاتے ہیں۔ جنکے لئیے انگریزی میں لفظ
Presstitute متعارف کرایا گیا ہے۔

قریبی ذرائع کا چورن بیچنے والے ایسے صحافی دانستگی اور نا دانستگی میں استعمال ہوتے ہیں اور قوم کے مجرموں کا تحفظ کرتے ہیں۔ ساری عمر کی صحافت کے بعد ایسے قوم کے مجرم طاقت ور لوگ اُن صحافیوں کو براہ راست موقف دینے کے قابل نہیں سمجھتے اور یہ قریبی ذرائع کے چورن کو معصوم عوام پر بیچ کر فخر محسوس کرتے ہیں۔

Very important development: PML N candidate for #NA148 Ahmad Hussain Dehar’s lawyer, Nasir Mushtaq Mangana, also confirming that copies of many of the Form 45 shown by the RO to us don’t match the Forms received by each of us from our polling agents. They have sought a recount in the constituency as well.

Not much left for the RO notified winning candidate, Yousaf Raza Gillani, to celebrate except the unlawful and fabricated results shared by the RO showing a now reduced margin of just 104 votes.

I would expect and request the Former Prime Minister to join us in voluntarily seeking a recount in the presence of all candidates/representatives asap. Each day’s delay will further erode his own respect and credibility.

People’s mandate will prevail eventually anyway InshAllah.
