A new low for the British media.

Happy 381st Birthday to Sir Isaac Newton!
An English mathematician, physicist, astronomer, theologian, and author whose mind unlocked the laws of motion and universal gravitation, and is recognised as one of the most influential scientists of all time.
Sir Isaac Newton worked 7 days a week, 18 hours a day. He had given up his personal life, he probably never had any intention of getting married or raising a family. He wanted to devote all his life to the works of science and the pursuit of mathematics and so he did.

I rarely praise mainstream media but this is truly journalism at its very best by WaPo, revealing the economic warfare that the US wages against much of the world, and especially against poor countries, with 60% of them today under US sanctions!
Here is what their analysis reveals:
1. ~1/3 of all nations on Earth now are sanctioned by the US. This disproportionately affects poor countries with over *60%* of *all poor countries* (countries classified as low-income countries by the World Bank) under US sanctions of some kind.
2. Sanctions have become an immensely corrupt multi-billion-dollar lobbying & influence industry, enriching former US officials who are hired by foreign countries & oligarchs.
3. Biden is the president who - by an order of magnitude - had the highest rate of sanctions with at some point in his administration a volley of +6K sanctions in just 2 years.
4. Sanctions have had devastating effects on innocent civilians, directly causing immense suffering and possibly deaths in the hundreds of thousands. In Cuba, they've made critical medical supplies impossible to import. In Venezuela, they contributed to a financial collapse 3X greater than the US Great Depression. Syria faces its greatest humanitarian crisis this year after a decade of sanctions.
5. Worse of all, besides causing immense suffering of civilians in mostly poor countries and enriching a corrupt system, there is very little evidence that sanctions actually work at all. This is an incredible quote in the article by Bill Reinsch, a former US Commerce Department official: “nobody in government is sure this whole strategy [of sanctions] is even working.”

Hegel remarks somewhere that all great, world-historical facts and personages occur, as it were, twice. He has forgotten to add: the first time as tragedy, the second as farce.
Palestinians are being killed because of famine in Gaza, and they are also being killed trying to reach the aid dropped into the sea. This is a genocide. This is evil.
There's an old joke about two Jews sitting on a park bench in Berlin in 1930. One's reading Die Rote Fahne, the newspaper of the Communist Party. He turns in horror to see his friend reading Der Sturmer, the Nazi paper: "why are you reading that filth?!" he asks...
