Year 12 and 13 Biologists, Chemists and Psychologists took part in the Royal Institution’s Forensic Science Youth Summit today! They thoroughly enjoyed discussing the forensic files! Great links to their specification of uncertainty, causation and correlation!
Some examples of fabulous homework from Year 8 in Science! Studying the atmosphere and so to broaden their knowledge they were asked to research the different types of clouds. #linkingsciencetoeverydaylife
Year 8 students enjoyed demonstrating the rock cycle using starburst sweets! Cutting them up to show weathering and erosion to form sediments, then compacting = sedimentary then heat and pressure = metamorphic before forming igneous rock.
Year 8 students listening to astronaut Tara Ruttley live on Zoom this afternoon in Science! Raising aspirations @RBAcad#careers Thank you @SETPOINTHerts
Many congratulations to Harvey and Katherine in Year 13 for achieving their Gold awards in the British Biology Olympiad. Their results put them in the top 5% of all students nationally that competed! @UKBioComps
Some of our Year 9 and 10 Scientists participated in the GCSE Science in Action conference yesterday. They were treated to 5 speakers talking on a range of topics including astronomy which was a favourite by the students! Thank you to Mr Spiller @MrSpillerSci for organising!
Fantastic workshop ‘On the Road’ for Year 7 Scientists today! An inspiring journey learning about road building and careers as an engineer, materials scientist and environmental scientist. Thank you @camsciencecntr#NationalCareersWeek2022
Year 12 Biologists absolutely loved their dissection of a mackerel this morning! Mrs Sparks demonstrated on a trout, pointing out various organs before Year 12s got to work on theirs, specifically looking at the gill filaments.
Fabulous density columns made by Year 10 Scientists using syrups, oil, washing up liquid, coloured water, mouthwash, lemon juice and a bead to investigate liquids of differing densities.
Year 10 Scientists have had an amazing talk today by the lovely Dr Anna Kloeckner from Imperial College London on genetically engineered organisms and their uses, risks and benefits. #inspiringthenextgenerationofscientists#sciencecareers
Mr Martin’s Year 7 class were investigating tissues in a chicken wing by dissecting it to discover tendons, muscles, bone and blood vessels amongst others!
Great fun in our Year 12 Biology lesson today with bubble membranes! Soap bubbles are chemically similar to cell membranes so we explored what can pass through or not.
Year 12 Biologists researched a career linked to their topic of Cells including epidemiologists, haemotologists, pathologists. For Tilly this was right up her street with her ambition to obtain a degree in a Bachelor of Science studying botany!
