one of the primary things that police officers do is shout loudly at you. it's said that they sometimes give conflicting orders simultaneously & purposefully; if you are in a moving car, they will step in front of the car to justify shooting into it. I have little patience for people who post smugly on Twitter "insist upon your constitutional rights" who have no idea how aggressive officers can be if they target you. ICE is just the most visible manifestation of this aggression. expecting anyone but particularly women, Black citizens & persons of color to stand up to such an onslaught is absurd.
the face of a person who is never challenged, his world-view never questioned, literally never hears a syllable of opposition unless a journalist, usually a woman, questions him, & then he is astonished & infuriated.
The LA mayor stuff is the dumbest conspiracy theory I've ever heard & makes no sense. Dem establishment/Bass wanted Pratt, not Raman, to advance.
Bass crushes Pratt in a 1-on-1 by 18 pt, while Raman beat Bass by 4.
Pratt's the rarity in LA less popular than the unpopular Bass!
Elon Musk called Hitler a socialist then Grok correctly debunks him by pointing out Hitler rejected Marxism and ran a fascist system that prioritized nationalism and private enterprise. Grok then explains socialism is class equality and worker ownership!

two of my friends who died of Covid in early 2020 were highly educated, one of them a journalist & the other a medical practitioner; each was adamantly independent & dismissive of "scare stories" about the new illness said to be highly contagious. they died literally because they were too stubborn to believe that they could die so suddenly since they believed they were in perfectly good health.
“Terrible! Right here in Minneapolis, unarmed persons shot in the head! This is a vicious regime but hey, we’re all making money so cry harder, libtards.”
Orban concedes defeat. The support of Trump, Vance, Putin, Lavrov, Weidel, Milei, Le Pen, Fico, Babis and many others could not overcome Hungarian anger at a stagnant, corrupt regime

it does seem as if a foreign adversary has taken over the US & in plain view is dismantling its programs, institutions, missions & ideals. the most acute observers among younger generations must be looking upon this with dismay, despair, outrage--their US will be tragically diminished compared to the US most of us grew up in. it's hard to believe that much of US science research is being terminated -- the country used to be so proud of its great scientists. not to mention medical research.
to the white phony-refugees from South Africa whose qualifications are merely a "white" skin, a free pass to the US; to dark-skinned Africans who have proven themselves deserving, nothing.
shame.
last poem by Ray Carver:
And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on the earth.

Back in November, @DHSgov found one — a “criminal alien” who voted despite not being a US citizen.
As it turns out, he was a green card holder who, the @nytimes reports, voted for Donald Trump — three times.

Biden probably lost the presidency with this single appearance on TV. such amateur-ism! following this, demands for him to step aside, hurriedly choosing his vice-president to run for the presidency, not allowing for other candidates to be considered.... it is hard to comprehend these missteps which, yes, were recognized as missteps at the time, not just in retrospect.
so we have a near-police state now, with ICE spending many billions on building detention centers.... & a president openly/brazenly hoping to rig or even cancel elections.
Today, the Trump administration repealed the endangerment finding: the ruling that served as the basis for limits on tailpipe emissions and power plant rules. Without it, we’ll be less safe, less healthy and less able to fight climate change — all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money.
The WSJ Editorial Board weighs in:
“It’s hard to recall a regulator who has done as much damage to medical innovation in as little time as Vinay Prasad. In his latest drive-by shooting, the leader of the Food and Drug Administration’s vaccine division rejected Moderna ’s mRNA flu vaccine without even a cursory review. This is arbitrary government at its worst.”
