GENTO YOWN!💥
Proud doesn't even begin to cover it – mics on, style up, and they owned that stage. Styled the boys with that effortless street vibe to let their talent shine. Stars of the show, no doubt. 🌟

19-minute video pero proud lang nafeel ko as the video keeps going. I got teary-eyed the whole duration.

To @iamkarendavila Am a #filipino living in #America. Filipino pop music, by and large, has been branded "baduy" even by many Filipinos living abroad. When @SB19Official started going viral, they started getting the attention of other fans who are into Kpop and that's key because that's really the lowest hanging fruit and a huge market.
They started going on tour in the US. At least a quarter of the audience are of other nationalities and races. These "international fans" have become the bridge to even more international fans. That has helped them win international awards, get slots in US shows, etc. Is #SB19 as popular internationally as Kpop counterparts? No but they are helping start the conversation.
At the start, it's natural for no other #PPOP group to be in the conversation in the early years. Even Kpop took decades to move from Korea to Japan then to the rest of Asia then to North America. And that's with the Korean government support.
SB19 has largely relied on the quality of their songs and performances to go viral online. They had to rely on their own investments to be able to go around the world to tour, forming micro communities or micro fandoms, scattered throughout North America. They pump content to utilize each micro-community to slowly grow bigger. Yes, it's not as fast as we all want it but that's what you get when it's just 5 guys and small local team doing all the work for global reach. But that doesn't mean they didn't start it. It just means, they did it organically.
#SB19 is doing it all on their own. They don't get government funding. They don't have a huge label funding them. They don't have investors in the US ready to lend them money to use for marketing and PR.
I will be supporting #BINI because THEY ARE TALENTED, FULL STOP. And also, #Philippines could use all the success we can find. I hope that you also do enough research. I understand you are a wife and a mother, probably an entrepreneur too but it's also literally your job to do research and deliver facts. YOU, of all people, should know the power of words and the power that emanates from your position. Please be careful on how you use it. You know how many times words have obfuscated history. You know that.
Vocês não tem a noção do orgulho que sinto de vocês, pela sua arte tão genuína, pelo seres humanos lindos que vocês são, pela perseverança, resiliência, por acreditar mesmo quando todas as situações diziam que não
Amo vocês🩵

Back on August 16, 2019, when SB19 had their first ever press conference, some invited members of the local media were downright rude at them. Their looks were mocked, their intentions were doubted, and their sexuality was questioned. Once the event was over, they were then seen crying and hugging each other.
So who would have thought that in four years, they would go from wearing Divisoria-bought clothes over and over again to donning custom pieces from the likes of world-class Filipino designers like Neric Beltran and Francis Libiran*? Who would have thought that from merely just having a phone in their hands to mark their event milestone with a selfie, their milestone would then involve holding together a trophy from an international award-giving body and their photo to mark the occasion would be taken by foreign media?
Now note that the two recognitions (Hot Trend Award and Best Artist Award) that were bestowed on Josh, Pablo, Stell, Ken, and Justin at the recently concluded Asia Artist Awards are not the only accolades they have received since that fateful Friday in August, four years ago. I'd go over my character limit here on X if I even attempted to list everything. The same's true with the many difficulties they have encountered since that day, including the one from just last month when they nearly lost their group name.
But with or without character limit, one thing I will never hesitate to say is SB19's story is one that's undeniably of perseverance and determination, of never giving up even when things seem impossible. Their will to fight for their dreams and push back against all odds? It's a story that's worth knowing and following.
2019 SB19 to 2023 SB19:
"Did we make it?"
"Yes. We did. We definitely did."
*See how Libiran's design for SB19's AAA red carpet appearance looked like an ode to what they wore in 2019
