I’m guessing young Wyatt will remember this day the rest of his life…He bid on and bought his late Great Grandfather’s ( Don Hess) JD 430 Tractor on Wanda Hess auction today in Plain City, OH. And oh by the way - it is Wyatt’s birthday today! Happy Birthday Wyatt! Congrats!!

Fantastic article from @FoulkShay. These are the priorities farmers should consider when making a new investment. And no, not every investment should be farm ground.

Rotary Hoe decision??? Do the "poke test" with your index finger. If there is moderate resistance or you can't poke your finger down the seed slot, a corn or soybean plant can't get thru either. If you think you "MAY" have to hoe THEN GO DO IT!.. Don't wait another day to two. With heat and wind things will harden quickly and there will be rapid seedling growth. Make sure you are not snapping soybean hypocotyls.
How much can waiting to plant an extra day or two really matter??? Corn yield by plant date shows the first acres after a weather event can be costly!!! There was a fourpeat last year..... Same result each time.
If you have negative Working Capital, you probably should:
-Not buy equipment for 2 years
-Get input quotes from a different supplier
-Get second opinions on your marketing, agronomy plan, and crop insurance
-Make a plan to correct WC with your lender
Take Action!
𝐼 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠;
A guy looked at my Corvette the other day and said,
"I wonder how many people could have been fed for the money that sports car cost?
The reply; I'm not sure;
it fed a lot of families in Bowling Green, Kentucky who built it,
it fed the people who make the tires,
it fed the people who made the components that went into it,
it fed the people in the copper mine who mined the copper for the wires,
it fed people in at Caterpillar who make the trucks that haul the copper ore.
It fed the trucking people who hauled it from the plant to the dealer
and fed the people working at the dealership and their families.
BUT,... No idea how many people it fed.
That is the difference between capitalism and the welfare mentality.
When you buy something, you put money in people’s pockets and give them dignity for their skills.
When you give someone something for nothing, you rob them of their dignity and self-worth.
Capitalism is freely giving your money in exchange for something of value.
Socialism is having the government take your money against your will and give it to someone else for doing nothing.
I think this is well written and well thought out
