Reuse of pineapple residues in small farms to improve nutrient-cycling and income stability as well as to reduce agricultural GHG emissions | #MonkshillLab 🌱
One year later and our Minion loggers for CO2 measurements and WallE for spectral vegetation indices are still at work 💪🏼 Our pineapple plants are looking good too (despite the crazy typhoons)!🍍 #MonkshillLab@zalf_leibniz
Preparing and testing our low-cost incubation system for an upcoming experiment with Philippine soils and pineapple residues used from the field site🍍🌱 #MonkshillLab@zalf_leibniz

💡 We developed a measurement device using low-cost microcontrollers and sensors 🛠️, enabling accurate monitoring of atmospheric carbon dioxide and water fluxes.🌍 @MathiasHofmann6 @zalf_leibniz
@zalf_leibniz Some photos from our final measurement campaign and biomass/soil sampling last August 2023 with our very hardworking Master student Rinan Bayot 🍍 #MonksHillLab
With the help of so many people we finally implemented our field experiment in Calauan, Laguna 🍍@zalf_leibniz#MonksHillLab Here's a thread of photos on how it went:

We are also happy to share our research with local farmers in Laguna, Philippines through a workshop organized together with the University of the Philippines Los Baños. Special thanks for the support of Dr. Pearl Sanchez and UP CAFS members @bmel @zalf_leibniz#MonkshillLab
Great panel discussion led by @bmel today as well focusing on right to food and supporting global food security research particularly by forming strong partnerships with the Global South #Tropentag2023@zalf_leibniz#MonksHillLab
@MathiasHofmann6 Completely agree! We're currently working with low-cost CO2 & ET loggers and NDVI sensors @LeonceSossa@KwabenaNtintan hopefully to expand CO2, ET and ground-based spectral data in SEA and Africa 💪🏼 https://t.co/koarLGKRaI

This is how we can do better:
These pineapple leaves used to be worthless until a designer revived a centuries old technique to extract fibers from the fruit. The result is an alternative for leather.

Here are some photos from today's field visits 📷 Amazing teachers and such a great learning experience thanks to the @ICOS_CP Summer School in Hyytiälä, Finland. So glad that we were also able to share our research from @zalf_leibniz ✨ #MonkshillLab
@holisoils
