Deeply concerned about the incident that occurred on the Flydubai flight to Israel and very relieved that the plane landed safely thanks to the actions of those on board.
All of my thoughts are with those injured in the attack and all those on the plane, as well as their families.
Almost all of the posts decrying the collateral damage from this war are justifications for the Geneva Conventions which include stuff like wear uniforms, don’t use civilians as shields, don’t hide weapons and soldiers inside civilian infrastructure. One side of the conflict is in constant violation of these, and the results are catastrophic for the people they pretend to fight for.
When I was 15, I decided I wanted to be an MP - to make a difference to the country I love and be famous for it. I devoted my life to that goal - Oxford, ConHome, the Speccie. This quiz is a great reminder that most MPs are irrelevant non-entities and that I've wasted my life.
🚨NEW: Chancellor John Healey's team claims that he and Andy Burnham didn't realise how bad Britain's fiscal position was before they got inside the Treasury

A cool precedent to set is that citizens have to read Hansard to know what activities may become retrospectively illegal. Thankfully this can never come back to bite me
Hey @BBCNews -
Can you please actually do your job and report how everyone, including Reform, were told in March the law would be retroactive.
Heres the wording:
“The cap will therefore apply retrospectively, so it will include all donations from overseas electors received from today and all regulated transactions entered into from today.”

The commonality between approving of female exclusion from this event and approving of male inclusion in female single-sex spaces is that both take from women and give men what they want. I suppose there have always been women who are fine with that https://t.co/HsqGIHZy3X
Sex differences in the postpartum period aside, there should clearly be less paternity leave than maternity leave because men are extremely annoying when they're not at work
After a dreamy fortnight I’m back from paternity leave.
It’s been so nice! I got to look after Charlotte and Aryana more than usual - lots of egg and soldiers for breakfast! - and spend lots of time with Saffiya.
At Novara we have a month paternity leave - we think that stuff is very important! We have good maternity leave too, certainly for our resources and size as an organisation. It was really important to us prioritise stuff like that. So many women get screwed in the labour market once they have kids. If we reproduce that then, frankly, we have no right to exist.
I’ll be using the remainder of my leave gradually over the rest of the year. But it really got me thinking: one month should be the statutory minimum for paternity leave. That’s as much for mums as dads. Why? Because in recent weeks my wife and I were able to share important moments together, but also - as importantly - establish something resembling a pattern and expectations about having two kids rather than one (I’m under no illusions this will be very ‘challenging’ 🤣). That was invaluable and will hopefully make the rest of this year that little more organised and easier.
In a polarised political environment it’s the kind of policy you’d hope would garner relatively widespread support. Letting people ease into radical changes when it comes to family life is common sense.
For me, being a dad is the best thing in the world!
"THEY ARE CELEBRATING THE PROPHET'S BIRTHDAY" I, a British MP, declare knowingly. My toothy grimace widens into an enormous, dribbling Cheshire cat grin, escaping the bounds of my face
@estel1414 Don't take any advice from people who have babies that sleep well
They have absolutely no context for what you're going through and will only serve to annoy you
Seen this before. When British media decide it’s important, or edgy, enough to platform a controversial speaker, but are either so scared it might go wrong, or so determined to be the person to slay the beast, they absolutely blow the interview.
