“I am worrisomely seeing in California that there is becoming more loyalty to past methods that have been shown to be ineffective for our most struggling readers. We can never put loyalty to past methods over loyalty to our children.” - Dr. Maryanne Wolf

We know it's toward the end of the school year, but there are lots of reasons to choose at least 1 of these events to attend in the next few weeks. Especially excited for https://t.co/dXeFGVFgsL
Thank you @DDCalifornia for the partnership!
Speaking as a teacher, having a quality curriculum to implement means I can leverage my time to give specific feedback, intervene, examine progress, collaborate/reflect…
Don’t make us develop our own instruction. There are much wiser uses of our time and talent.
Speaking as a parent, if you honestly believe that making sure teachers have decent curriculum is evil, then your own kids aren't in public schools. Once you see what kids learn, and how widely it varies from classroom to classroom in the same building, you can never unsee it.
Teachers deserve to be prepared with effective, research-backed training and curriculum. Students deserve a public education that guarantees their right to read. @AsmMuratsuchi, will you set a hearing for #AB2222?
Claude Goldenberg, a specialist on English Learner literacy, is one of the leaders speaking out to say that the bill absolutely advances the needs of ELL students:

This misunderstanding about the needs of ELLs is really problematic. @AFTunion’s publications put pressure on @WeAreCTA’s assertions about ELL needs.
How do we close this understanding gap, @BeckyPringle? It’s really not a good look for CTA.

With only 4 in 10 third-graders reading on grade level it is time for comprehensive early literacy reform. #AB2222 (Rubio) is the best path forward to close the reading achievement gap in California.
