@lynnewain81 I mean...jessie fauset had been a teacher, and would return to teaching, so technically the brownies book is by a teacher. Are you looking for British? I come across usa education stuff occasionally, and will look for more. Might we end up with similar themes again...🤔🤔

The Judge and children discuss a topic each issue, the Judge overseeing, guiding and teaching them lessons, usually moral. Fauset's writing across these is masterful; clever and funny and I will definitely write about it at length in future 2/2

One more for #thebrowniesbook100 January 1920 issue for now, although I will cheat and do more Jan tweets in the first few days of Feb... Each issue had a Playtime section, usually with songs, dances and music and occasionally with puzzles. #histchild

The first issue introduced one of the regular features of the magazine. Written by literary editor (and probably the main force behind much of the mag, but more on that to come in time..) Jessie Fauset, The Judge held "court" with children 1/2

Letters of praise, anger, sadness or fascination in The Brownies' Book tell us that this was a periodical that wanted to host the desires and struggles of black children. It wanted to offer solace and support as well as excitement and joy. #thebrowniesbook100 #histchild

I'd argue that whether genuine letters from readers or written by editors, letters pages are reflections of a publication. They tell us either how the magazine is read or how the editors want their magazine to be read
