Good Law Project stealth edited its Jason Arday solidarity letter after 1,000s signed it, as Cambridge names got cut or distanced

The Good Law Project's open letter defending Cambridge professor Jason Arday against plagiarism allegations has been quietly rewritten since signatures started coming in, according to archived pages. And there are signs that Cambridge leaders have been effectively distanced from the letter.

On July 28, when the letter had 605 signatures, it claimed that both universities that received the allegations "conducted thorough investigations and found no evidence whatsoever of wrongdoing."

By July 31, with more than 11,000 signatures, that sentence had been softened to say only that "investigations have found no evidence." The claim that both universities conducted thorough investigations was deleted. The "no evidence" language stayed.

Then the signatories changed, in particular from two heads of house at Cambridge.

Professor Dame Ijeoma Uchegbu, President of Wolfson College, Cambridge, was listed second on the letter on July 28. Sometime between the night of August 1 and the morning of August 3, her name vanished entirely. In the same window, Lord Simon Woolley went from "Lord Simon Woolley, Principal, Homerton College, University of Cambridge" to just "Lord Simon Woolley." His name survived, but his Cambridge affiliation was scrubbed.

This is a peculiar way to run an open letter—rendering it a living document. Nearly 14,000 people have now signed a document whose factual claims and marquee names keep shifting underneath them. What the first 605 signers endorsed is not the letter on the page today, and there's no note anywhere disclosing the changes.

The letter dismisses the plagiarism accusations against Arday as the product of a racist rightwing smear campaign.

I’ve been thinking about this predator all day. Tonight I rang West Yorkshire police to inform them of the information contained within the previous tweet.

In the tweet was a lot of useful information, but no geographical location, which is essential if I am to contact his parole officer. He was given a life license so he will have a probation/parole officer. He was released from prison in 2022.

I have the area where the initial offences were committed. I shall ring probation offices tomorrow when they are open as this is a very worrying state of the affairs and also a high profile case.

I will update when I can with information that I am able to pass on and that not is appropriate.

DONT WORRY this is not being left, I have taken action and I imagine that quite a few other women with a criminal justice background will also be taking action to find this creatures parole officer as fast as we can.
