@CBMoraSJSU I see a lot of that now with the messenger services at work like Teams and Skype. I still think that some form of delay will be present. Just think of interacting with those in another country. The time zone difference could make live communication hard.
Social media will continue to be an important part of connecting with others. It will spread to more than phones, watches, & computers. I just hope that people don't let any platform where posting about their life keeps them from living it and enjoying it. #INFO246w82
@robyndero21 Love this! If the end goal is more engagement offline, then measuring likes for a post about an event isn't going to give you the data you want. You would have to get data at the event of how they heard about it. If they say-Twitter-then you know the post worked :)
@CReyesReads Yesss! It is important to understand your competition and what they are doing successfully. Get motivated or inspired by it...but not copy it.
@on_the_shelf21 I was drawn to your post because I love the gif. So, this makes me wonder how much clickbait helps. If your post gets more likes the mysterious algorithm shows it to more people...but how many are interested in the actual post topic or the cool gif? Does it matter?
Use data to measure the effectiveness of social media. Each platform will have different metrics to look at to help determine success: followers, site hits, likes, etc. #info246w719
Libraries can maintain privacy by not making data collection a requirement. Being opt in to information sharing is usually the default and then people must opt out to maintain their privacy. Libraries should make opt out the default and let patrons decide to opt in. #INFO246w75
@ReadOutLoud6 That is an excellent question. At my library, whenever we host events we like to casually ask our patrons how they heard about it. Sometimes, for more formal events that have an evaluation at the end, the question of how they found out about the program is added to the eval.
@robyndero21 I think it is also important to know how to use the form of social media properly. For example, one post shared across TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and Snapchat will not be met with the same level of engagement on each platform. Know your users.
@HeejiSharok Great point. Getting feedback from the community is something libraries can use to make sure they are meeting their needs. Also, it is important that someone is monitoring the posts so that important information/feedback or opportunities to answer/help are not missed.
I pay attention to the intent behind the social media posts my library is making. I have noticed that we are now sharing content of our customers that highlight things they are doing in the library. It's a great way to engage others & it's free advertisement. #INFO246w621
@ReadOutLoud6 Hello. 80-90 sounds perfect! Good luck with the wildfires this year. They can be so devastating. I have lived in AZ most of my life, so the only weather I know well is sunny or monsoon rains. I love when it rains too :)
Hello, hello! Iโm Joan and Iโm a librarian in the wonderful city of Phoenix, AZ. Iโm enjoying the 100+ degree weather before it gets unbearable. Whatโs summer like in your city? #INFO246w67
@librie3@JeannaMichel_ Insert foot in mouth... Right after I say I am enjoying the 100s we got our first (of many) heat advisory warnings. We are expecting temperatures as high as 118 this week. NOT looking forward to this!
@AnnWeist Hello. Iโm also looking forward to this class and the different nature of the assignments. I donโt use social media much in my personal life, so this intrigues me. Wishing you a great semester!
@robyndero21 I love your pictures, especially the owl (one of my favorite animals)! Iโm also a big fan of wildlife and nature. I hope you have a great semester.
@Bobbiknotts_ Congrats on getting married! Sounds like youโre a dog personโฆme too, but I enjoy the smaller breeds like shih tzus. Good luck on your librarian journey! ๐
