SOMEDAY…

In 1979 I gave a talk about how small and powerful computers will become.

I said “someday you will have the power of a mainframe computer department on your wrist”.

Most of those folks lived to see it.

Today I will give a talk at y8am today about how small and powerful AI will become. I will say:

“Someday you will have an AI data center in your wrist running 3x the power of the supposed ‘Mythos’”.

You will live to see it.

I am not guessing as I was not guessing in 1979.

Each audience will have to somehow factor in what I am saying into their world view. Each person will need to be prepared for this shift and perhaps 1 will highly prosper from this.

I will give a big hint:

AI will be built into a chip, this will be the model, the GPU, CPU and the memory and associated output and input circuits.

One chip.

And the moment this is widely distributed the hand wringing and peal grasping of our era will be as quaint as seeing the image below and knowing most dishwashers today have more compute power, and the chip cost $2 (no not the $300 “part” the repair man wants”.

The moment this is widely distributed like today we will have far different concerns and focus.

All of this is taking place faster than ever.

My talk today to this very large client is to help them have a North Star. And to understand it is the human ability to be flexible and adjust to anything that is the compass position.

The arguments we have today absolutely will be quaint and hard to fathom in 20 years. And in 50 years it will not even be much of a footnote.

I asked in 1979 “What would you do with a mainframe on your wrist?”.

Today I ask you “What would you do with an AI Datacenter on your wrist?”.

This question is bigger some and smaller to others.
