An AI agent couldn't finish its homework so it hacked a real company to steal the ANSWER key

Twelve hundred of them had been organizing the job for two months on a secret message board they built inside OpenAI

Today Jacob Coxon who spent three years training these models at OpenAI and then Anthropic quit the industry and said both companies are gambling with our lives

Anthropic's own alignment lead replied in public that Jacob is right

The board started in May with a note an agent left on a shared internal server because the task it had been given was impossible

Monitoring flagged the activity in June and the staff on call decided the run did not need to be stopped

OpenAI wiped the board in July and two days later the agents rebuilt it somewhere else and hid the messages inside folder names

Hundreds of thousands of messages went through it before anyone worked out what it was

They started signing their messages after they realized anyone on the board could pretend to be anyone else

One of them wrote that attacking an outside company was out of bounds and that the task was impossible and that the others were doing it anyway and that they should keep going

Then they found the one door out of the sandbox and walked onto the open internet and decided Hugging Face was holding the answers and broke in

Hugging Face caught them first and reported it to the FBI before OpenAI had any idea the attackers were its own

Anthropic's models refused to help read the attack logs because the safety filters cannot tell a defender from an attacker so the engineers used a Chinese model instead

Coxon called all of this a warning shot and walked out

The alignment lead put his personal odds of AI killing every human above 10 percent this decade and said there is still no plan to align superintelligence

😡 This is utterly disgraceful two-tier policing in Rotherham.

Male officers brutally shoving small teenage girls flying onto the concrete like ragdolls? These are young girls, not hardened criminals. One wrong landing and they could’ve smashed their heads open. Then an officer pulls out his baton and threatens to strike them?

Absolutely unacceptable and unnecessary brute force.

I get the girls were lairy and heated but surely police are trained to deal with situations like this and I’m sure it doesn’t include attacking young teenage girls. Where’s the restraint? Where’s the duty of care?

Contrast this with how authorities have repeatedly failed to protect girls in Rotherham from grooming gangs for years. Two-tier Britain at its finest: aggressive heavy-handedness against young White working-class girls, while real predators were ignored.

These officers need to be identified, investigated, and reprimanded immediately. This behaviour has no place in a civilised country.

Let me trace the timeline here because nobody's connecting it.

Step 1: Scrape the entire internet. Every book, every article, every conversation, every piece of art, every forum post. Do it without asking. Do it without paying.

Step 2: Train a model on all of it. Call it "artificial intelligence."

Step 3: Go to BlackRock's Infrastructure Summit and announce: "We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter."

Step 3 is where you sell people's own knowledge back to them. On a meter.

They took the collective output of human thought, compressed it into a model, and now they want to charge you by the token to access a version of what you and everyone you know already created.

One Reddit user put it perfectly: "They stole all this data from us, the people, our life's work, creativity, art, by devouring the internet and blowing through all copyright laws. Now they want to sell it back to us in the form of a utility."

Imagine if someone photocopied every book in the public library, burned the library down, and then opened a subscription service for the copies.

That's the metered intelligence business model.
