Nah, code reviews massively improve visibility of changes across a large team. Also "just making CI better" won't help catch subtle bugs or inefficiencies that only a well trained set of eyeballs can spot. For the rest of the nitpicky stuff like formatting, just automate it.
This might be heresy but:
1. Code reviews are a massive productivity tax with tiny quality benefits
2. They should not be mandated
3. The author should feel free to request a review if they want it
4. If you don't trust your engineers, invest more in CI, or hire better ones
Tough day today. Really sorry to those affected at IW, Activision Blizzard, and Xbox as a whole, especially immigrants on work visas who have mere weeks to find new positions or leave the country. Genuinely feels like job security is a thing of the past…
Attending E3 2019 for the launch of MW and then having an absolute ball at the Respawn, Reddit (?!!) and Treyarch after-parties was peak game-dev socializing for me. RIP.
