Had a conversation with a teacher related to an Academic Challenge contest. The rules were that she could draw 8 students from the 25 in her classroom. I could pick 8 from any classroom in the entire school, including hers.
She said “No way! How is that fair?!” 🤷♀️
@TheCrustyOldMan@DBriggsBlade@toledonews I’m sure they would. Great conference. We both can come up w/examples for our stance. (Sidenote-A serious ? I would have is how many privates remain in their Div. Does comp balance push most up? Not trying to take anything away from their accomplishments )
@DBriggsBlade It’s not just about who the final man standing is. It’s about all those other schools as well starting in the first round that deserve what should be common sense- that their opponent’s roster was built using similar rules as theirs. Not from multiple zip codes….
@neohiohsfb For those who believe the rules are equitable please take a look at girls D2 swimming. I stopped counting at 25— that is consecutive years the title was won by a private school.
@SmithersRon@DBriggsBlade@toledonews Competitive balance does little more than make the recruiting machines somebody else’s problem.
…so ur saying the private will leave if they don’t continue to get this staggered rules set up? Don’t let the door hit u on the backside on the way out.Good luck finding games.
@CoachGoshe@DBriggsBlade@toledonews Exactly right. I’m looking at girls D2 swimming. I’m counting back 25 + straight years that the title has been won by a private school.I stopped counting at 25…Absolute joke & the powers that be should be ashamed of the inaction they have displayed to allow this to happen.
@MartinRPI Yep. Just your typical D4 or D3 school, right? Same level enrollment rules as the others. Nothing to see here. Everybody just keep your mouth closed and act like this is a level playing field.
@mlaughman@OHADNewsHS@ByAlexHarrison With all due respect, it’s not just about the 1 team that wins the title. It’s about fixing an obvious disparity in the rules on how 1 team can build their program compared to the other. It is not even debatable. Some of these teams have athletes from 7 zip codes…
@ohblkshirt@CLillstrungNH I Agree it has to be reduced down. That would just be too much. We are both on the same page with that. But every athlete/team should have equitable rules to compete by in the post-season IMO
@ohblkshirt@CLillstrungNH Uhhhh….. look at the historical data in girls swimming , for example, and tell me that a split wouldn’t be a more level playing field for girls swimmers….
@robosase@SportsBoyTony Can we stop just talking about the ONE team that wins the title? How about fair and equitable enrollment rules all along the post-season path?
@SportsBoyTony …so let me understand this: if post-season tournaments are modified to have all the schools have similar size enrollments and the same student enrollment rules, they are going to leave????
Weird that this post is made, the school pictured is in full pads, that’s not able to happen until Tuesday., then getting pulled a couple of hours later… private school don’t operate the same IHSA rules as public’s…
@OHADNewsHS Glenville—- just your typical public D4 high school (not sure of the division this year). Perfectly legitimate move for I’m sure academic reasons.
