@jandro_kess@TraceyRyniec Larger GDP than some small countries. Great I hope it reaches $1T plus!! Still need to know why companies leave to combat this in the future. Citadel, Boeing - not a real loss. But stay aware of the whispers from other cities…great feedback Alex, thanks!
@ChiRuxinBGO They did Rob. They are perceived to have made private meetings with the mayor, other municipalities. Then did not respond accordingly when info was brought to light. Don’t know if any of this is true but the silence is deafening.
@UribesCup@jakebartley23@shane_riordan I do. I don’t like the beach but love to visit, drink all their alcohol, then leave and go home, away from the beach. Just my take partner, others are like me, some not.
@dabearsblog@coejarp Wars, illegals…past stuff buddies. Truth be told IL would probably never drop a lot of money on illegals again and the US is probably regretting this war…but you are right healthcare does get left out nationally bc most are not profit anyway and pay far less taxes.
@UribesCup@jakebartley23@shane_riordan Part of the problem here is Hammond itself. Everyone (that I speak with) could care less about anything in the Midwest except for Mecca (Chicago). No one says “I can’t wait to move to Peoria”, and Peoria is great but sights are set on the prize - Chicago.
@UribesCup@jakebartley23@shane_riordan No one wants to take that risk. Don’t blame em. It’s Hammond for Christ sake. But IF the Bears do lead the charge, the goal would be that the bars and restaurants follow their lead. They may, they may not for a while. But if they do…this could be great for Southsiders and IN.
@chicagobars@ChicagoBears Unfortunately I think a big push for this move is from fans who are dabbling with bears fandom. Which is great, come one, come all! But there is still that ignorant stigma that all of CHI is dangerous. IN gives new fans an opportunity to experience without the irrational fear.
@UribesCup@jakebartley23@shane_riordan Vision is there partners…just may take time to come to fruition. We see this all the time in Texas, new stadium, new event venues for college teams and after some time (years) we see the people. Hammond/South Side will definitely happen overnight but the framework is there.
@archmorality Agreed Arch but where Mr. Renn is wrong is the city rep comment. Bears and Chicago are married you don’t think of the Bears without CHI, vice versa. Cubs as well. That my friend is cultural influence. I grew up in TX a Bear. Spent my life idolizing the city bc of the Bears.
@RobertJPeters Hammond will be just another tourist site for Chicago travelers but this is a pride thing for (I think) a lot of Chicagoans. These people are proud to rep CHI not anywhere else. Don’t blame them, great city (arguably the best). CHI needs all the revenue it can get at the moment.
@RobertJPeters Downtown is special. But people don’t fly from all over the world to any sporting event (except FIFA I’m learning) but many hard working people spend that hard earned money on the Bears. Now these people will do the same but in Indiana. Not in Illinois. Any lost revenue is bad.
@SweetMelissa606@40thforward For what it’s worth Alderman Vasquez, we do appreciate you engaging in this back and fourth!! Love the passion whether we agree or not!! Go enjoy a beer on this fine Saturday in the great city of Chicago. Happy to buy your first round.
@jakebartley23@UribesCup@shane_riordan Hey Jake, I see the vision buddy but I do think the major concerts, sporting events, stay at Soldier or in Chicago for a while simply because of ease of access - hotels, eateries. I think one day (years away) these same events will take place in the Bears new stadium.
@UribesCup@jakebartley23@shane_riordan People may not travel to Hammond. That’s okay, new fans will. Bears won’t shrivel up and die after losing a few fans, maybe a lot of fans. Who knows. Red staters (those scared of Chicago) will travel to see the Bears in a “friendly” state.
@UribesCup@jakebartley23@shane_riordan I have not nor am excited about Hammond as a destination to watch my Bears. But neither was I when the Cowboys moved to Arlington (not a fan, just a football watcher). But the vision will be the same in both locales. Maybe more in IN with additional state funding.
