Melika Dastyab, 21 years old, was an economics student and a professional tanbur player, a young woman whose spirit was so pure that she believed her blood was no more precious than anyone else’s, drawing her into the heart of the protests on January 8. She had lost her mother just one year and nine months prior, and in that agonizing time, she had stepped into the role of mother for her little sister. Now, that innocent child has lost not one, but two profound pillars of support in less than two years. According to her close friend, who was by her side in that moment: “I was there, witnessing as Melika was fatally shot directly in the head.”

Jamileh Shafiei, a 66-year-old mother and grandmother from Arak, was a brave and heroic woman who embodied unwavering courage. On January 9, in an act of defiance, she threw herself in front of the Islamic Republic’s regime agents to shield the youth from their bullets. Yet, with ruthless cruelty, they shot this gentle, peaceful, unarmed woman. She sacrificed her body as a human shield against the oppressors’ tyranny.

There is growing evidence that the brutal Iranian regime has used chemical agents against protesters. Last week, videos surfaced showing repression forces in Sabzevar, Razavi Khorasan Province, wearing protective clothing and masks typically associated with chemical weapons. Now, a first-hand report from one of the protesters has been released:

"After a week has passed since I took part in the Niavaran protests and was targeted by tear gas, my body still hasn’t returned to normal.

For a week now, my blood pressure has been very high and my heart rate elevated. I have stomach pain, headaches, and dizziness.

After a full examination at the Niavaran clinic, the doctor said that many people have come in with symptoms like mine, and that this is the effect of unauthorized and chemical substances that were fired at people under the name of tear gas, which disrupt the body’s normal functioning."

💔 What happened at the Rasht Bazaar in northern Iran on Thursday, January 8, 2026, will go down as one of the most horrific crimes any government has ever committed against its own people.

A large group of civilians was driven into the bazaar through fear and gunfire. They were trapped inside, the entire place was set on fire, and machine-gun fire rained down on anyone who tried to escape the flames to save their lives.

These were ordinary people, protesters, men, women, and children.

How can some of you still defend this regime and try to frame this as the government dealing with “rogue rioters”?
