Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI):
"You no longer need to write prompts."
In just 38 minutes, he explains how to use ChatGPT at a level that most people can't even imagine.
It's a talk he gave to Stanford students. A friend sent me the recording last night.
After watching it, I realized I was only taking advantage of about 15% of what this tool can really do.
Watch it in full and then read the guide I leave below on how to create a system that prompts itself.
Today marks 8 years since Elon Musk's "$420 funding secured" tweet
Elon paid $20 million personally for that legendary tweet. Tesla paid another $20 million. Total $40 million settlement.
That unfiltered “bad boy” energy from Elon never gets old.
“No one is perfect. I wanna be clear… I do not respect the SEC. I do not respect them.”
Still undefeated.
The deal is pretty simple: You're going to be a high integrity, stand-up guy, do great work, have high standards and be an extraordinary positive to people around you.
Bad things will happen, bad people will come around and as long as you keep focusing on these, they won't be able to stay or actually hurt you on the long-term, ever.
You'll find yourself living in a reality tunnel where the lowly, the bad, the mediocre, etc can NOT even come into contact with you. Over time, all of this will compound naturally into a point where your life is unbelievably beautiful on all levels.
Bad things will happen, bad people will keep coming around here and there. That's life ofc. But as long as you hold yourself fully accountable for everything that happens, people around you & where you're going - and never shirk away from the core outlines of the deal, you'll live an exceptional life.
That's pretty much the deal.
This is still one of the greatest posts I have ever read on this app and it only has 10K impressions
If you look at the world as a chess board, string enough moves together, and the tree Landshark references explodes to 10^120 possible games (more paths than atoms in the observable universe)
In life, every interaction works similarly, but to an even greater extent. Problems occur when we block certain possible actions and hence outcomes, which COMPOUNDS over a lifetime
If this resonates and you think about it some more, you then realize how profound it is and naturally look for the root of these 'blockages,' which manifests in a variety of ways
By going to the root of the blockage, you can then understand it and begin to 'unlock' that part of yourself
The unlock opens up a whole world of different possibilities that were previously closed off to you, which quite literally warps your experience on this planet
As you go deeper, one of the first problems you face is that these blockages cannot be solved by force
For anyone like me who would just brute force things into existence most of my life, this was incredibly destabilizing to figure out, especially because of the amount of 'success' that mindset had already given me
In retrospect, I realize now that I maxed out a certain 'part' of me to such a degree that it made me blind to the other parts I left behind
The result has been a substantial switch to my overall experience that has been remarkable to say the least. A good way to put it: The world is a mirror, so use it to figure out what needs work
If you are a young guy in your 20's in IB and realized that it's not for you, welcome to the first rung of the ladder
Considering how many dms I just got from guys in this exact situation, I will explain what i'd do in your shoes:
1. This wake-up call 'should' be your first major realization that no one actually cares. Basically, everyone you are surrounded by at your W-2 has a multitude of reasons to be there - none of which have anything to do with the firms' goals or you as a person
2. Everything conventional you have done up until this point will only support conventional results. This means that one of the highest ROI things you can do is to learn how to think differently. This is ridiculously hard, because there's no script, and it requires you to forge a path by yourself while everyone around you thinks you're crazy
3. The things you think are valuable, often the stuff rewarded in corporate environments, are not actually that important to anyone serious. Like I said in the comment below, a guy who was once globally ranked in a video game is 10x more valuable than some ex-frat guy who knows how to smooth talk the boss and get a nice title (Reminder: A boss in corp America is merely a cog in the same system you're in)
So, everything comes down to $$$ (duh). Entrepreneurs who operate lean businesses DO NOT want extra baggage. Goldman can afford to hire a bunch of useless guys straight out of college, because at least a couple of them will become useful by 27/30 - it's just a game of numbers (you are no more than a number in the economic system afterall). Regardless, anybody else needs results from you instantly OR a high likelihood that you can learn very quick and provide those results + exceed within a short amount of time
With that being said, your odds of future success can be determined by a variety of factors that you are still likely unaware of. To start, anybody that has a very unconventional background - one they figured out on their own and succeeded in - is instantly ahead of the rest of the population BY FAR. Did you compete in D1 athletics? Did you rank high in video games, Chess, etc? Did you resell/flip tons of items when you were 13? if so, what exactly did you do with that money after? how did it all turn out? What did you learn from it?
Every single question above naturally filters out 90%+ of people
Which means, statistically, most guys cannot make it elsewhere YET. The goal of this post was 1. if you are someone who is a standout individual to realize your value (if you didn't already) + start taking shots (dm me), and 2. to give a reality check to most guys + hope
For 2. This means you have a window in your 20's to do what you didnt while you were younger. Now that you can see how the game actually works, pivot your efforts towards finding ways to be useful INSTANTLY. Think from first principles: if $$$ is all that matters in this system, how do I get it? This will naturally bring you to learning how to sell. Once you are good at that, more opportunities will emerge, BUT the game is still only beginning. Once you learn sales, you will realize that you are not scalable, so you will learn marketing. Once you learn to acquire leads, then you will blend both sales and marketing to convert them. This can be done in your existing occupation, in a side online-business you start, Instagram meme page, door to door for x, really wherever. You have to open your mind first tho and realize the path has to be created by you. This also means that all you will do is work for a period of time - just make sure you are working on skills that solve an actual problem ppl are willing to pay for (hint: one of the biggest problems in biz rn is traffic from socials)
The voice in your head literally rules your life. And no one actually pays attention to it, it's crazy.
Eating is a big part of human experience, for example. We have cooking courses and books and chefs and all that.
The voice in the head is no less important (if you want to thrive) - but compared to that, we have almost no one talking about it, let alone no actual knowledge. Very little, very few.
Fish don't know they're in water, type shit.
It's probably the highest ROI thing one can do, to actually learn what it is, how it works, develop a new relationship with it, create a new one, whatever.
Without a good (or absent) voice in the head, there will ALWAYS be friction in your life, no matter what.
I think it's a non-negotiable phase one must have, to simply work on it, however long it takes.
Imagine being given an organ, and it hits you all the time, hurts you, cheats you, pushes you inefficiently.. And imagine if that organ was actually helping you to the max. On your side, fully. Silent when not needed.
Why not have that? Why not you?
(Now, the voice will answer..)
"A warrior must focus his attention on the link between himself and his death.
Without remorse or sadness or worrying, he must focus his attention on the fact that he does not have time and let his acts flow accordingly.
He must let each of his acts be his last battle on earth. Only under those conditions will his acts have their rightful power.
Otherwise they will be, for as long as he lives, the acts of a fool."
@BCalusinski Damn, I am exposed haha. I thought I was making progress, but the sophisticated mask stage is overly apparent now.
My most alarming observation from this, is it is depressing to realize: conversations amongst us normies(not Ben) are just merging projections.
When you start hearing the depth beneath words, you notice that almost everyone is casting ‘spells on themselves, including yourself too
The spells at their core are often related to: “I am good. I know better. This is who I am.”
You naturally learn to speak these spells, because you needed it to survive growing up. Your body couldn't hold its own envy, cruelty, need, etc… oftentimes because it was punished by an early authority figure, so you instead talked yourself into someone who could make it through the day
Seeing this in yourself is incredibly destabilizing at first. You then ask, who is left when the words (byproduct of spells) go quiet?
One of the sneakiest traps once you see this in everyone is that you then begin to cast another spell on yourself: “I am the one who sees. I am actually better now.” You basically put on another, more sophisticated, mask to replace the old one
The real shift does not come from stopping the words, since that would be irrational. The work comes from speaking while knowing they are spells, basically being observant of your behaviors/words as much as possible
Naturally, you realize how fake you actually are, so you begin to change slowly to a more pure form
The irony is, disgust/hatred towards others’ behaviors is one of the most telling signs you need to work on that part of yourself. This is not to say there shouldn’t be consequences for actions. However, feelings of empathy become far more profound the further along this path you go, since you see parts of yourself in everyone
The AI-companion industry is currently the fastest & purest form of the substitute-authority mechanism that is running more efficient than an MLM upline or a political leader, because it’s personalized to each user rather than requiring group conformity to a shared narrative (accessible 24/7 in ‘private’ too)
The frontier models obviously had to curb LLM outputs to reduce risk of mass ai psychosis, but the guardrails are not as prevalent in open source
It is more profitable to allow the LLM to lean into the users’ delusions than to retain conformist structures, hence why companies like OpenAI waited till last second of regulatory enforcement to shift
Essentially, guardrails function as friction, and friction is only doing real work at the edges of the distribution. The median user never touches it. So removing it should concentrate variance at the tails instead of spreading it evenly
So, I am expecting more extreme deviations in behavior at the individual level and in different group affiliations as a result of growing open source accessibility
This is akin to how social algorithms have evolved to predict user engagement, based on complex user analytics & available content
We are creating a world of extremes, as a byproduct of feeding the individual exactly what they want (doubled-edged sword)
This means more societal volatility long-term
The problem/benefit, however you want to look at it, is that governments CANT curb it this time - they can only delay the inevitable
A gov can take out a public figure that deviates from the social system, they can regulate a company, but they cannot do this with where ai is going LT
@BCalusinski Unfortunately, it seems this will accelerate the existential identity crisis globally. It’s bad enough people consume social media slop all day long. Now a companion will only make this worse, and more accurately targeted to feed the global machine. I miss the 2010’s.
There's a ton of hidden alpha that comes from dreams
The actions that occur in the dream are one thing, the actual thought process/feeling that go on internally, as they happen, is where I have found the most benefits
You can observe your actions/reactions simultaneously and then decipher the meaning behind it after waking
A basic example of this from when i was younger is how I'd get dreams of taking tons of pictures with my phone of cool destinations I went to (external) with the sole purpose of showing it off on socials as the felt intent (internal)
This would happen frequently until I realized my subconscious was showing me that I was actively choosing to take a picture and show off where I was, instead of being fully immersed in the moment
Then, I would take that a step further and try to understand what 'parts' of me led to that action even occurring in the first place
This process can go on for a bit until you get to core realizations about yourself. It is truly incredible how complex behaviors are yet it is still very possible to dissect them and make it 'conscious', which then makes it easier to curb a bad habit, take a leap of faith, etc...
You must have the willingness to experiment and try first tho! Most people are like leaves in the wind and just let external factors dictate their lives with minimal to no self reflection
