The first step toward solving this very real problem is to stop disguising it in soft language.
There are hundreds of homeless people, all dealing with severe mental health issues or chronic drug addiction (or both) living on the Blue Line.
And the city does nothing.
Serious question: What happens when an ambulance or fire truck can’t get through because the street has been narrowed down to a single lane for bike infrastructure?
Look at this mess.
Who thought this was a good idea?
A driver plowed into a group of CPD officers who were working to contain a huge gathering on the Near West Side overnight, injuring 4 cops and at least 1 other person, according to preliminary info.
About 500 people were at the street party.

Electronic monitoring is not appropriate for violent individuals who pose a risk to public safety. It does not keep people safe.
The consequences are dire.
We mourn the loss of Officer John Bartholomew and pray his partner will recover. This tragedy should never have happened.
Here's why the system is set-up to block us from getting answers about how this case was handled:
*Chief judge's office refuses to comment on pending cases
*Chief judge now handles electronic monitoring
*Courts are not subject to FOIA so we won't have direct access to EM records
Sources: The man who killed a Chicago cop and gravely wounded the officer’s partner:
• Is an electronic monitoring escapee
• Is a parole absconder
• Has armed robbery and armed carjacking cases pending

The rap sheet of the man who murdered one Chicago cop and critically injured another.
One year ago, he was arrested for aggravated vehicular carjacking and armed robbery...wait for it...WHILE on pretrial release (H/T Pritzker) for three separate cases at the time of the robbery and carjacking: a 2023 stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing case; a 2024 charge for aggravated battery of peace officers; and a misdemeanor domestic battery case filed in January of 2025.
Another habitual offender turned out again and again to violate law-abiding citizens by a political ruling class that could not care less about them. And now a cop is dead and another one is clinging to life.
Illinois.
SPEED BUMPS ON BIKE LANES? What idiot traffic engineer puts speed bumps here? The whole bike lane experiment is a disaster costing millions making it no safer for cars, pedestrians, or bikes.
CITY of CHICAGO COMPLETELY MISMANAGED: The: city continues an a downward spiral with empty storefronts, never ending road construction, increasing taxes, building bump outs & bike lanes. massive retail thief, & violent crime. Much of the blame is on the leadership of the mayor, governor, 50 aldermen, 177 state legislators, county officials, prosecutors, judges, & the media. #EmptyStoreFrontProject
Of the 30 largest police departments in the United States, CPD has the lowest percentage of civilian employees, at less than 8% of its workforce.
A new workforce allocation study identified 604 sworn police officers — people with badges, guns, and the authority to make arrests — currently assigned to jobs that require none of those things, such as timekeeper (42 officers), watch secretary (98 officers) and police district administrative support staff (85 officers).
These police officers are not on patrol. They’re not building relationships. They’re not responding to calls.
CPD can move these officers into roles where sworn expertise is actually needed, and hire civilian professionals to back-fill the positions at a fraction of the cost.
This misuse of talent is hurting public safety.
I don't think people understand the gravity of the situation as the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran.
This is a picture of Tehran. For you uneducated, untraveled, never-served, warhawks licking your chops at the thought of bombing it. It's not some low population desert. There are families, children, family pets. Regular working class people with dreams. You're sick to want war.
Tehran is a city of nearly 10,000,000 people. Imagine nuking Washington, Berlin, Paris, London, or beyond, bombed with nuclear weapons.
I gave up my diplomatic career to leak this information. I suspended my duties so as not to be part of or a witness to this crime against humanity, in an attempt to prevent a nuclear winter before it is too late.
Yesterday, nearly ten million people protested “No Kings” in the United States. The possibility of the use of nuclear weapons must be taken very seriously. It's dangerous. Act now. Spread this message worldwide. Take the streets. Protest for our humanity and future. Only the people can stop it. History will remember us.
NEW: The Washington Post editorial board is backing four key reforms to change Chicago’s financial trajectory.
1. Independent oversight of the budget.
2. Change state law to allow for municipal bankruptcy.
3. Implement $1 billion in efficiencies identified by EY in an analysis last year.
4. Change election timing to double turnout in municipal elections.
Details on all four in the replies ⬇️
The new bike lanes on Belmont Avenue in Chicago are a complete disaster. They are unsafe for cars, pedestrians, & bikes at a cost of millions of dollars. They created more traffic by making Belmont one lane. They encourage bikes to pass on the right which is completely UNSAFE. The drainage is terrible, bad design, bad concept. Note thousands of gallons of green paint used, wears off very quickly so constant repainting necessary.
For 8 years, Kim Foxx colluded with lawyers who masquerade as civil rights advocates. These “civil rights” lawyers sued Chicago to free violent criminals including those involved with murders, many of whom were released on claims of police misconduct, not exculpatory evidence showing innocence.
After their release, these criminals filed multi-million-dollar suits against Chicago, and they and their lawyers raked in millions. These lawsuits have cost Chicago $1.1 billion since 2008. Foxx may be gone, but well over 200 “wrongful conviction” lawsuits are pending that could cost Chicago billions more. Across the nation, half of all the exonerations and the cost of lawsuits that followed have involved Chicago Police. Suing Chicago Police has become a billion-dollar racket ignored by the media that falsely characterize the exonerations and multi-million-dollar settlements as evidence of police misconduct. This demands a DOJ investigation. Violent criminals are released and many become millionaires. Chicago taxpayers are getting fleeced. When you cast your ballot for County Board President, remember it was Toni Preckwinkle who handpicked Kim Foxx to carry out the exoneration racket.
A declared regime change war of choice for "freedom" of the Iranian people. A regional war in a matter of hours. American lives at risk. A massive depletion of military stockpiles on behalf of Israel
Most importantly: The most profound campaign betrayal in modern US history
I’ll say it again, when there’s a piece of legislation that 80% of America agrees on and the leader of the senate is trying to tell you that he can’t get the majority party(95% of whom approve) to solidify 50 votes, you aren’t being represented, you are being ruled.
Say goodbye to a 100-year tradition.
It’s a sad morning for local Bears fans, but the writing is finally on the wall.
While Illinois politicians were canceling meetings today, Indiana just held a vote and won 24-0 to make Hammond the official site for a new $2 billion stadium.
The team is officially "committed" to a vision at Wolf Lake. They’re taking a 106-year-old Chicago legacy and moving it across a state line because one side was "open for business" and the other couldn't get out of the huddle.
Imagine a Sunday in Hammond. Same colors, same team, but the soul of the city stayed in Cook County. A century of history just became a casualty of politics.
Imagine the first home game in Indiana. The "Chicago" Bears playing in a different zip code because the politics at home got too toxic. The Midwest just changed forever.
STUPID: How do these stupid bump outs make streets safer? At School Street & North Clark in Chicago. Complete waste of money.

Bike lanes in business corridors have proven to be underutilized, expensive, and a nuisance.
They should be removed and we need to stop spending tax payer funds on these pet projects.
