@PeterBent565@VictorianLabor Metro tunnel was 100% necessary as a precursor for Melton Electrification, without it the necessary capacity would not exist. Also COVID has collapsed peak commuter numbers, pushed back the need for more capacity a decade or more.
@econoadabsurdam Not sure where you found that little graph, but some truly fascinating assumptions. All the infrastructure disappears after 50 years? No residual value? Just depreciates down to nothing? Patronage less than a third of what is reasonably expected?
@MakeMelbGreat@MelbOnTransit WGT was a department plan, the department came up with many bad ideas and if they'd had their way we'd be building several more expensive and less beneficial projects.
@BhagsNStonks@econoadabsurdam The West gate tunnel was recommended as part of the East West link, even the liberals business case found it was the more useful section.
@econoadabsurdam This isn't true, it would be an extra $5.40 per DAY, not per trip, which would still be less than Sydney's daily maximum. Also not very honest of you to not mention fares are currently half price.
@libertyscott@econoadabsurdam Inland rail was much worse, all airport lines are worse. Considering how much each Sydney Metro blew out by their BCR is very similar to SRLs, whose costings have been on the money. Cross River rail had a worse BCR even before cost blowouts.
@baazaa9@CBadcock@ellensandell Problem is that IV likes a bunch of even worse projects like MM2, airport rail etc. so they're really not objective at all.
