@TheFigen_ Very nice! I would argue that:

- the physics part is mainly basic light reflection.
- the math part is mainly geometry of conics. It hides in the design of the satellite dish as a parabola, which concentrates lights at the focal point.

@gabrielpeyre Great post. Question that always bothered me: doing an SVD means that rank is a good measure of sparsity.
- is it really ok to assume that for images? I see no natural linear structure.
- or is it just that SVD is a very standardized/stabilized matrix computation?

1/ Bureaucracy is death by a thousand paper cuts.
2/ Evaluations for admins and science environments: Why only evaluate the scientists? Not the science environment?
3/ CNRS interventionism in labs that it does not manage.
4/ Salaries (obviously... other 3 are free)
