Also, these fire camps are hard to get into with a long waiting list. The inmate firefighters recieve extensive training, reduced sentences, and career opportunities for when their sentences are complete.
These volunteer firefighters ARE HEROES.

The participating individuals are paid between $5.80 and $10.24 per day plus $1 an hour when responding to active emergencies, according to CDCR.
