I’ve followed this population of killer whales since 2015, & it’s excruciating to watch them waste away as they starve & carry their dead babies in grief (see: J35 Tahlequah)

There are 74 remaining, & their situation is dire. 69% of their pregnancies fail, & of the live calves born, 50% die in their first year. Because their blubber is full of pollutants & they’re literally starving to death, they burn fat to produce milk & the toxins are offloaded 1/
