@CPRELondon Leeds is selling off @redhallpf and our "pocket park" replacing it is going to be on the other side of a dual carriageway for us. These things are great if they replace nothing, but in exchange for a loss of ~24ha of green space I can't agree :)
‘Ignoring how climate and rapid land development were putting disease-carrying animals in a squeeze was akin to playing Russian roulette.’ Linking rapid urbanization to loss of habitat and the rise of infectious disease, @propublica: https://t.co/SFr4UCwGKH
I love a road trip, but cars - as a mobility tool - don’t work well in dense urban places. It is a geometry problem - they take up too much space, move people inefficiently. When we remove them from cities, the places we live grow full of possibility.

Been trying to make this point for a while now. More importantly it’s not just garden villages, it’s the endless field by field allocations & many urban centre schemes going up across the country. It will impact your local city, town or area. #shitplanning https://t.co/1kizQ1g3hp
@frontofstore Each allocation deals with differing landowners, each site then needs to show deliverability, so each scheme ends up with its own access & rarely reaches a capacity to have anything like a local centre or a local shop! Result = spilling yet more cars into a constrained network.
PLANNING: Govt considering "very substantive" changes to planning rules to help kickstart the economy, including
"..a zonal planning system where key decisions will be taken from councils and handed to development corporations.." See:The Sunday Times

"They have become the nation’s Natural Health Service, and the green belts of open land that surround housing estates and other densely populated areas finally won a virtual round of applause last night."

Hands up if you've enjoyed exploring & rediscovering your local parks and green spaces during the last few months? We are delighted to award today's #locallegends plaque to all the groups & volunteers who care for @LeedsParks Thanks Garance for the nomination!🦆🦉🦢🌻🌼🌳🌲⛲️🌈😍
The trees in the red area were already cut down during the UK's wettest February on record. The fields and the right of way have been invaluable for social distancing and exercise. To have the right of way removed during lockdown feels unnecessarily cruel.
At the north edge of @redhallpf, the eco-vandals have begun. These were the woods I'd run around in with my daughter 4 or 5 years ago. "Daddy, can we go to the jungle?"
No-one ever asks to go to the dual carriageway.
A continent's on fire, and we're about to sell playing fields and destroy mature wild habitat to build a dual carriageway and houses on.

'Toronto to join 800 other governments in declaring a climate emergency.' This must be paired with action. To declare a climate emergency and to continue to rebuild the Gardiner Expressway is a magnitude of contradiction that is unfathomable. You cannot do both. #Choices
When the scramble of the long commute, and the burden it places on young families really comes to light, the importance of creating affordable homes for families on transit and in walkable communities near jobs becomes particularly clear. https://t.co/shGqk1a2L0
“Adding car lanes to deal with traffic congestion is like loosening your belt to cure obesity." — Lewis Mumford, 1955.
If you can remember, and share, only one quote about transportation, make it this one. We’ve know it for 60+ years.
